Avner was a young Jewish boy in Warsaw during WWII. One night, he, Max Eisenhardt and Levi Weinlaub were smuggling food for their families.
Before he could get through a wall as Max and Levi did, Avner was caught by Nazi soldiers, who demanded him to tell them the names of the people that had gone with him. The disturbance caught the attention of Herr Hitzig, who offered Avner fresh food if he gave him the names. Avner gave only the name of Levi. After Hitzig told Avner to pick up from the floor the stolen food he had dropped, Hitzig shot Avner in the back.[1]
