Quote1 Had no idea all those years back... when I smeared a pentagram on my chest and called forth the Devil. When I traded my soul to save the man who'd been like a father to me. When I damned myself to an eternity spent in servitude to that bastard Mephisto. Back then... I never once thought... that all this time later... I'd rise through the ranks from servant... to King of Hell. Quote2

Synopsis for "The King of Hell: Part 1"

In Hell, a witch sacrifices one demon to perform a ritual that successfully opens a portal to Earth in front of a horde of demons that still favor Mephisto as their true king. Before the witch could finish speaking, she’s stabbed by a chain shot by Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze, the King of Hell. As him and his gang arrived, multiple demons came through the portal, and Blaze was able to catch a child-sized chicken bodied demon named Batrong. Johnny asks where the other hell spawns are going, of which Batrong doesn’t answer as he sees Blaze as the false king. Johnny orders D’Kay to bring him to the seventh level of Hell, and to prevent any further escape attempts. He decides to find those escaped demons himself and falls down to the portal sending him back on Earth. As he enjoys walking on the streets of Manhattan, inhaling air that didn’t reek of infernal elements, Johnny senses sin comparing it to being drenched in cheap cologne.

Meanwhile, in Brooklyn, Danny gets involved in a fight with an unpleasant customer. He senses his Spirit of Vengeance trying to take control but before Danny could finish the brawl, Stacy Dolan steps in. She came to Danny’s bar, the Fadeaway, to check on him after attending his mom’s funeral a couple weeks ago, and leaves. Emma, his bartender, remarks that he messed up letting her go, and that fighting customers is not a good way to run a business. Danny thinks to himself how he and Stacy could’ve been together as a married couple with kids and a proper job had his Spirit of Vengeance not ruined his life. As he approaches his bike, he can feel the transformation happening trying to resist it but can’t, bursting into the sky as the Ghost Rider.

Danny can smell the evil of a giant demon, the same demon serving as the witch’s henchmen, in the city. He chains his arm but gets thrown to a building. Johnny arrives, observing the demon’s strength and its blindness, making it impervious to the Penance Stare. Danny, surprised to see him, summons his bike while asking why can’t he command it to go back. Blaze explains that some demons have no respect for the new management, of which Danny responds that respect is demanded and not asked, while wrapping his chain to the demon’s snout. He pulls it tightly, rides into the beast’s mouth, suspending Johnny in disbelief, and explodes from the other side yanking the demon from the inside out.

Back in Hell, D’Kay is told to stand down and got his heart ripped off from his chest by Lilith with her new Lilins.

Johnny comments Danny’s decision to purchase and open a bar, of which Danny responds that he wanted something for himself. Johnny asks if Danny could help him gather all the escaped demons but got rejected after what Ketch experienced in a Nicaraguan village. As Danny expresses his distain towards the Spirit, Johnny can sense something in one man nearby. He accepts Danny’s rejection, telling him that he had an opportunity to help, hearing Danny’s offer to drink free in his bar, and leaves.

Mephisto, still imprisoned, feels that something’s changing and that a war is coming.

Johnny follows the man to his apartment while Danny visits his deceased mom’s tombstone, elaborating everything that happened. Danny looks at his side and sees what looks to be his mother, calling for him, telling that there’s something wrong with Johnny and that he needs to be stopped. Johnny, on the other hands, attacks the man, revealing itself to be a disguised demon. The hell spawn pleads to not be sent back claiming they deserved to be free, suggesting that he should be worried about those who would snatch the throne of Hell. Johnny, with his skull having horns on top resembling a crown, invites anyone who tries to do so, dismembering the demon in chains and hellfire.
