History
The Laughter Gem is one of the five stones that make up the Abundant Glove. It was found by the Human Torch in Battleworld during the Beyonder's Secret Wars. He intended to give it to Zsaji, but she died before he had the chance, so he took it home, to Earth.
The stone remained stored at Pier 4, but got lost once said location was destroyed. When the Skrull Talos the Untamed set out to assemble the glove in order to enslave Earth and prove his worth to the Skrull Empire, Howard the Duck sought the help of Doctor Strange to find the gems.
With Doctor Strange's powers, the Laughter Gem was eventually found in the ground below the new building that had been erected in the place of Pier 4. However, Talos took it before they had the chance.[1]
Once he assembled the Abundant Glove, Talos wreaked havoc throughout New York City using sentient constructs made from the glove.[1] Talos was eventually defeated after Howard the Duck managed to snatch the glove from the villain's hand. The Laughter Gem, together with the rest of the Abundant Glove, was given by Howard to Mister Fantastic.[1]Notes
- The flashback scenes in Howard the Duck (Vol. 5) #4 depict Johnny Storm picking up a blue Abundant Gem in Battleworld (identified earlier in the issue as the Second Dance Gem). However, the gem buried in the former location of the Pier 4 (thus, the one retrieved from Battleworld), is depicted later in the issue as purple (the color of the Laughter Gem).
