Loki Laufeyson[src]

History

Origins[]

This Loki Laufeyson is a temporal divergence of his Earth-199999 counterpart, sharing his history up until 2012, when he attacked New York City and battled the Avengers with his armies of Chitauri. He was arrogant, cruel, suave, and self-centered, willing to stab anyone in the back so long as he could get his way.[3]

Becoming a Variant[]

Loki Laufeyson (Earth-TRN732) from Avengers Endgame 002

Following his defeat, Loki was captured by the Avengers and taken to the base of Stark Tower. When future versions of Tony Stark and Ant-Man from 2023 time-traveled to 2012 to try and take the Tesseract, their plan was inadvertently foiled by the Hulk, who knocked the Tesseract from the future Tony and allowed Loki to use it to make a getaway.[3]

Loki Laufeyson (Earth-TRN732) from Loki (TV series) Season 1 1 002

Soon after making his escape, Loki was found in the Gobi Desert by the Time Variance Authority, who arrested him for breaking the timeline's original flow and dubbed him "Variant L1130". At Loki's trial, Agent Mobius pleaded before Judge Renslayer to permit him to question the Loki Variant, which was granted to him. Mobius took Loki to his office, where he showed him the future life his "Sacred Timeline" counterpart would have had, including unwittingly contributing to the death of his mother Frigga. Mobius tried to get Loki to open psychologically in order to realize what made him and the other Lokis "tick", to little success. However, when Mobius briefly left Loki unattended, Loki briefly escaped from captivity and came to threaten Casey, demanding the Tesseract back. Casey obliged, but Loki was shocked to notice multiple other Infinity Stones in his drawer, which Casey noted were abundant enough inside the TVA to be used as paperweights. Stunned by the revelation, Loki noted that the TVA must be the greatest power in the Universe, which Casey matter-of-fact agreed with. Loki returned to Mobius' office and viewed the very end of his life, including his death at the hands of Thanos. Realizing that his life had no "glorious purpose" after all, Loki was left broken, at which point Mobius offered him work at the TVA to help capture an entity known as "The Variant" that had been disrupting the timeline while also specifically targeting TVA personnel.[5]

Working with the TVA[]

Time Variance Authority (Earth-TRN870) from Loki (TV series) Season 1 2

After forcing Loki to take an orientation, Mobius took him and a group of Minutemen led by Hunter B-15 to 1985 Oshkosh, the cite of the latest attack at which Hunter C-20 went MIA. Loki immediately tried to weave an elaborate lie as part of his plan to take over the TVA, which Mobius quickly saw through, calling the bluff and returning to TVA. Reading the TVA files on the Ragnarok Loki had a realization and explained to Mobius his new theory about the fugitive Variants hiding inside cataclysms, where their actions had no effect on the timeline. Mobius and Loki tested this theory during the Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD and after confirming it, narrowed the fugitive Loki's location down to a Roxxcart Mall disaster in 2050 Alabama. The same team went in there and separated from Mobius, Loki was paired with Hunter B-15 who soon became possessed by the Variant and passed out. Finally coming face to the face with the Variant who turned out to be a female version of him, Loki followed her through a Time Door, despite Mobius telling him not to.[2]

Meeting Sylvie[]

Loki Laufeyson (Earth-TRN732) and Sylvie Laufeydottir (Earth-TRN866) from Loki (TV series) Season 1 3

He found himself back inside the TVA and attempted to stop the Variant, believing that he could use her help in taking over the TA. When the two were spotted by Judge Renslayer, Loki used a TemPad to trap, but inadvertedly trapped himself and the Variant, Sylvie, inside the apocalypse on Lamentis-1 in 2077. The TemPad was initially out of power and then broken, so the two Variants had to work together to leave the doomed moon, to no avail.[4] However, their growing feelings for one another caused a massive Nexus event, enabling the TVA to locate and apprehend them.[6] Mobius put Loki inside a Time Cell with a memory of Sif after hearing from him that he was himself a Variant, believing it to be another lie. However, after learning that Hunter C-20's confession was being suppressed by Renslayer, Mobius turned around and freed Loki from the Time Cell. They were cornered by Ravonna, who ordered Mobius pruned on spot. Renslayer brought the two Variants before the Time-Keepers to be pruned but Hunter B-15, also opened to her true nature, intervened and helped the Loki Variants break free. Sylvie decapitated one of the Time-Keepers, revealing that they were in fact mere animatronics, shocking everyone present. Ravonna managed to prune Loki, but was overpowered by Sylvie who took her captive.[6]

The Void[]

Void (End of Time) from Loki (TV series) Season 1 5 002

Loki ended up in the Void where he faced four more Variants of himself: Classic Loki, Boastful Loki, Kid Loki and Alligator Loki. They led Loki away from Alioth and to their lair. However, they were soon betrayed by Boastful Loki who revealed their location to a President Loki and his army of Loki followers. Boastful Loki wished to usurp Kid Loki as the King, but President Loki refused to honor their bargain and intended to take the throne himself, only to be betrayed by his followers in turn. A large brawl broke out between Loki and Classic Loki casted duplicates of himself, Kid, Alligator and L1130 Loki who joined the brawl, allowing their real selves to escape through a portal. L1130 Loki intended to go after Alioth and kill it and the other Lokis agreed to at least take him there. Kid Loki used his device to hone it on Alioth's location, allowing L1130 Loki to witness Alioth's might and the futility of his plan. Suddenly, a car with Mobius and Sylvie arrived, reuniting them with L1130 Lokin. Sylvie countered L1130's plan with her intention to enchant Alioth instead of fighting it directly, after which they shared a tender moment under a blanket. Kid Loki took everyone to Alioth's next location and Mobius went back to the TVA with a TemPad. Sylvie and L1130 Loki stayed to face Alioth, while the other Lokis departed. However, Classic Loki then shared one last look back and decided to return and help. He sacrificed himself to distract Alioth, enabling Sylvie and Loki to enchant it and open the pathway to the Citadel at the End of Time.[7]

He Who Remains[]

Loki (TV series) Season 1 6
Inside the Citadel, Loki and Sylvie were met by Miss Minutes who gave them one last offer from He Who Remains to be reinserted into their preferred timeline should they agree to stop pursuing the truth behind the TVA. Both Lokis rejected the offer and were met by He Who Remains, who explain the origins of himself and the TVA and presented them a choice: to take over the TVA and continue his mission in a more benevolent way or to kill him and let the branching timelines plunge the Multiverse into a new chaos. Loki was being cautious and wanted to at least think it through, but Sylvie was determined to have her revenge. After a brief fight, she pushed Loki out back into the timestream and killed He Who Remains. This caused a Multiverse to spring anew and Loki ended up in the TVA of Earth-TRN870's past, where neither Mobius or Hunter B-15 recognized him.[8]

Attributes

Powers

The same as his Earth-199999 counterpart before his imprisonment.

After being taught the mechanic behind Sylvie's enchantment, he was able to aid her in enchanting Alioth.

After He Who Remains was killed, Loki began randomly time slipping. This was initially inconvenient/painful, until he later learned to control this power and use it to his advantage.
