The Hulk is hurtled across the Earth following his battle against the Cobalt Man and sends him hurtling toward the Inhuman's hidden land. Picked up by the Inhuman's instruments, Karnak warns the Inhuman royal family that the Hulk's re-entry is on target with their newly constructed Space Ark, sending the Inhumans out to redirect the Hulk. Black Bolt flies off into the air and strikes the Hulk causing him to change course and crash into the side of a mountain.

Trapped inside, the Hulk tries in futility to get free and eventually falls asleep. When the Inhumans and Crystal's fiancée Quicksilver arrive at the crash site they see Bruce Banner climbing out of the hole caused by the Hulk's impact. Recognizing Banner from files provided to them by the Fantastic Four, the Inhumans welcome Banner back to Attilan as a guest, giving him new clothing and showing him their Space Ark which they explain that they are using to fly to a Counter-Earth that they detecting orbiting the sun opposite of their own Earth. They hope to go there because to the best of their knowledge there are no other super-humans on that Earth and they might be readily accepted there. They offer Banner to accompany them, however Bruce decides that he needs to think about it and walks around the hidden city.

As Banner is lost in thought about the idea of leaving this Earth for Counter-Earth, he is spotted by some Inhumans who decide to give him a hard time because he appears to be normal. Pushing Banner down, they make the biggest mistake they ever could: prompting Banner to transform into the Hulk. Going on a rampage through the hidden city, the Hulk is attacked by Quicksilver, Gorgon, Karnak and Triton, who attempt to subdue him with minimal success.

With the entire city at risk Black Bolt gets into the middle of the fight and when all else fails to stop the Hulk uses his immensely powerful voice to strike the Hulk down, who ultimately passes out from the noise. Black Bolt decides the best thing to do with the Hulk is to launch him off in their Space Ark, hoping to send him flying into empty space forever.

As the Hulk tries to futilely smash his way out of the ship, the Inhuman's launch it into space. While in Australia, Betty Talbot takes a plane back to the United States lost in thought about the supposed death of her husband Glenn Talbot and Bruce Banner. She witnesses what she thinks is a shooting star, completely unaware of the fact that it is in reality the Hulk's ship blasting off into space to an unknown destination.

The Hulk has been launched into space by the Inhumans following his rampage through their home. Confused and angry at being in captivity, and unaware that he is in reality aboard a spaceship, the Hulk furiously tries to smash himself free. The destruction he causes makes the ship pilot directly into the sun.

While on Earth, Betty Talbot has dinner with her father where she opens up to him and expresses her feelings over the seeming death of her husband Glenn, and her first love Bruce Banner. However, like Banner, Glenn is not dead, and has just escaped a Russian military prison in Siberia where he has been captive for many months. Upon his escape, the Russian commanders in control of the base are more than happy that Talbot has escaped.

Meanwhile, back in space, the ship carrying the Hulk steers away from the sun and heads toward its originally intended destination: Counter-Earth. There it crashes into the ocean, drawing the attention of the US military who send a team out to recover it. Opening up the space capsule, they find Bruce Banner unconscious inside. When Banner comes around in a military hospital, he is accused of being a spy (since Counter-Earth has it's own version of Bruce Banner) and the soldier demands to know if he has any ties to Adam Warlock. This hard questioning and the realization that he is back on Counter-Earth causes Bruce to transform into the Hulk once again and smash out.

Reports reach Washington D.C., where protesters are outside of the White House demanding that their government free Adam Warlock from captivity. There the Man-Beast, who has been posing as the President of the United States his minions Barachuudar, Snakar, Weezhil, and Cobrah to capture the Hulk and bring him back to the Man-Beast. As they fly off in a ship to capture the green brute, the Man-Beast contacts his minion Lizhardus. Lizhardus informs him that all attempts to bend Adam Warlock's will to their side have ended in failure.

The Hulk has arrived in Washington D.C. and seeking solitude smashes his way into the Washington Monument where he tries to get some peace and quiet but has to smash through some soldiers in order to get to it. His solitude is broken when the Man-Beast's minions attack, blasting the top of the Monument revealing the Hulk. As the four New Men battle the Hulk, the brute has them on the defensive until they manage to slip a mask on his face, enveloping him in enough gas to make him pass out and revert back into Bruce Banner.

While elsewhere, Lizhardus is deep in thought about how to make Adam Warlock his master's slave, when he is attacked and knocked out from behind by the Recorder, who has come to free Warlock so that he can save Counter-Earth from the Man-Beast.

Having been sent to Counter-Earth by the Inhumans, the Hulk has been captured by the New Men under the rule of the Man-Beast, who has been secretly operating as the President of the United States. His minions are surprised that upon the Hulk's defeat the brute reverted to the human form of Bruce Banner, and hurry him to the White House to be put in captivity. As Banner is being rushed in, the Man-Beast gets a call from his minion Lizardus, who informs his master that someone attacked him and freed Adam Warlock. Furious, the Man-Beast decides that Warlock must be destroyed and intends on using the Hulk as his pawn to get the job done.

Implanting a device into Banner to make him the Man-Beast's slave, they force him to transform into the Hulk. However, the Hulk proves to be too powerful and easily breaks free from their control and restraints. Smashing through the floor, the Hulks finds himself in the sewers under the White House where he coincidentally runs into his one-time ally the New Man rebel Porcupinus, who leads the Hulk away to safety.

While at the Justice Department, Ben Vincent and June Volper continue their investigation into the past history of President Rex Carpenter, noting that since he was elected president he had changed drastically and has practically become a recluse, prompting him to go to the White House and confront the President himself, little dreaming the horrible secret of their president really is.

While at the secret hide out of the New Men rebels, the Hulk is introduced to Adam Warlock, who welcomes the Hulk to their side with open arms. Showing the Hulk around, the Hulk finds solace and begins to consider Warlock and his followers his friends. Having supper with them, the Hulk is suddenly taken under control by the Man-Beast, thanks to the implant in his neck. The Man-Beast then forces the Hulk to go on a rampage, smashing up Warlock's base. This keeps Warlock and his followers occupied enough for the Man-Beast and his minions to arrive. As the Hulk is incapacitated by the evil New Men, Adam Warlock and the Man-Beast clash. The fight ends with Warlock being defeated, and the Man-Beast informs the would be messiah of Counter-Earth that he intends to publicly execute him.

Taking them all prisoner, the Man-Beast then possesses the body of his prisoner, the real Rex Carpenter, and using his media influence and hypnosis powers, he bends the will of the American public to agree to the public execution of Warlock. Banner, forced to watch, is horrified to witness as the as Warlock is bombarded with energy that ultimately kills Warlock. Upon his death, Warlock reverts to his cocoon form, much to the pleasure of the Man-Beast who finally believes the final obstacle in his conquest of not only Counter-Earth, but the original Earth as well, has been finally removed.

Bruce Banner watches in horror as the Man-Beast (possessing the body of Counter-Earth's US President Rex Carpenter) executes Adam Warlock, who in death reverts back into his cocoon form. With his emotions at their peak, Banner then transforms into the Hulk. Realizing that his new friend is death, the Hulk smashes through the soldiers and disguised New Men and escapes with Warlock's cocoon. Jumping off into the wilderness, the Hulk doesn't know what to do about the death of his friend and decides to take Warlock's corpse back to the secret hideout of his followers.

There, Warlock's followers -- both New Man and human -- mourn Warlock's passing. While back in Washington, the Man-Beast returns the body of Rex Carpenter to its cell where his daughter still is prisoner and then gears up for to begin a war across Counter-Earth. Before he can launch a single nuclear weapon, the Man-Beast's base is attacked by the Hulk and Warlock's followers. As the fight rages, the Hulk battles the Man-Beast and finds him to be no match against the creatures combined physical strength and mental powers.

As the battle rages, Ben Vincent and June Volper of the Justice Department pay a visit to the White House to question President Carpenter about his strange behavior following his presidency. There they spot one of the New-Men loyal to the Man-Beast and follow it down to the cell where Carpenter and his daughter are being held prisoner. When New Man checks the cell, Ben cold-clocks the creature, knocking it out and freeing Carpenter. While at the hideout of Warlock and his followers, the humans who remained behind and the Recorder all witness as the cocoon containing Warlock's corpse begins to glow.

While back at the Man-Beast's base, the Hulk manages to gain the upper-hand against the Man-Beast, easily turning the tide of the battle. Just when the Hulk has the Man-Beast beat, Warlock arrives -- having resurrected himself -- and with his powers at their peak he uses his abilities to change the Man-Beast back into human form. With the Man-Beast defeated, Warlock tells all those gathered that they must combat evil with their intellect and warns that the Man-Beast will be back again some day. When his followers ask if he will be there to fight them, Warlock tells them that they must fight him alone as he is needed among the stars to help other worlds in need of his aid and flies off into space, leaving them all and the Hulk behind to seek his destiny among the stars.
