History
Rruothk'ar was a Sith-Lord of the Ariguan Confederacy. In 1973, he was dining with Kyras Shakati in the latter's floating palace on Cinnibar when the Spartan Prince Gareth asked the corrupt merchant to kill both Meredith Quill and her son, Peter, who was secretly the son and heir of Gareth's nephew, Emperor Jason. During that sinister conversation, which Rrouthk'ar was close enough to hear, Shakati and Gareth both alluded to how, after a suitable interval, the emperor would meet with an untimely accident.[1]
On the 11th of August, 1973, a small spacecraft carrying Rrouthk'ar and another Ariguan arrived at Earth and landed in a wooded area in Colorado near to where the Quills lived. Their landing was observed by Peter Quill who rushed home to tell his mother and bring her to see the aliens. As the humans returned to the landing site, they were spotted by the Ariguans and Rrouthk'ar opened fire, killing Meredith Quill instantly with an energy beam. However, he missed her son and the Ariguans quickly left the area and the planet, leaving Peter Quill alive to grow up and, in 1990, be transformed into Star-Lord.[2]
Decades later, Star-Lord and his partner Ship teamed up with Kip Hölm and Sandy to stop a slaving operation led by Kyras Shakati. While doing so they uncovered a conspiracy to replace Emperor Jason with Prince Gareth. After travelling to the imperial throneworld of Sparta to warn the emperor, Star-Lord encountered Rrouthk'ar, now a Sith-Lord of the Ariguan Confederacy, in the company of Prince Gareth. Recognizing the Ariguan as his mother's murderer, Star-Lord attacked him and, after a single combat duel fought with swords, killed him. When Prince Gareth refused to surrender, he and Star-Lord fought their own duel, one that ended with Gareth's death. Star-Lord subsequently met the emperor who revealed that he was Peter Quill's father. Emperor Jason then revealed his history with Meredith and what he now knew of Gareth's involvement in Meredith's death.[1]Attributes

Notes
- It has never been established if "Sith-Lord of the Ariguan Confederacy" was the title of the leader of that political entity or if it was a title that could be held by many Ariguans simultaneously. It has also not been revealed if Rrouthk'ar was a Sith-Lord in 1973 when he murdered Meredith or if he gained that title later.
- In Marvel Preview #4 the reptilian aliens who killed Meredith were not named and seemingly killed her simply because she had seen them land on Earth. The retcon in Marvel Preview #11 revealed that Rrouthk'ar had come to Earth specifically to kill both Meredith and Peter Quill. However, no reason for why he didn't stay long enough to kill Peter has ever been provided.
