Synopsis

The Thousand Year War was a conflict fought between the first men and the Dragon Kings for the domination of Lemuria,[1] circa 500,000 BC.[2]

Preface[]

Datation[]

That war occurred around the times of Elder Hyperborea,[1] circa 500,000 BC.[2]

Its conclusion brought the end of the Age of Dragons, and the beginning of the Age of Men.[3]

Casus belli[]

In the days of Elder Hyperborea, when giant reptiles ruled the Earth, the Dragon Kings were evil kings and necromancers.[1] The Dragon Kings were the Elderspawn of Sligguth, one of Set's offspring.[4]

Seeing the Dragon Kings' evil, the Nineteen Gods created the first men, beginning with Phondath the Firstborn and his mate Evalla.

Men built Nemedis, the First City, and fought the Dragon Kings for dominance over Lemuria.[1]

History[]

At the beginning of the war, Men were overwhelmed, as it took too many of them to slay a single Dragon King.

They consequently retreated behind the walls of Nemedis (where they were led by Lord Thungarth), Althaar, Yb, and Yaodar, besieged by the Dragon Kings, and praying for salvation from Father Gorm.

Father Gorm eventually heard their prayers, and appeared to Lord Thungarth at Nemedis. He bestowed upon him the Star Sword (which contained the powers of the Nineteen Gods).

At the last battle, at Grimstrand Firth, the Dragon Kings were defeated, though Thungarth was killed and the Star Sword shattered in the process.[1] The battle was recounted in a song by Diombar.[3]

Aftermaths[]

Age of Men[]

With the end of the Dragon Kings came the end of the Age of Dragons, and the beginning of the Age of Men.[3]

While Nemedis eventually laid as a dead city,[5] Men developed on Lemuria, creating many more new cities, and becoming one of the oldest surviving civilization.[6]

"Elder Spirits"[]

As Men rose to supremacy in Lemuria, "elder spirits" (belonging to the kind of the Sleeper Beneath the Sands), invisible, shapeless shapes, that crossed the dark voids of space to come to Earth in its prime began to fled from sight, awaiting to rise and rule again Earth. Some lied dormant in the ocean or beneath hills.[7]

Dragon Kings[]

A score of Dragon Kings survived the slaughter, went into hiding in their castle at the Dragon Isles of the inland Sea of Neol-Shendis. They attempted to return their past glory long afterwards, but the last of them were killed by Thongor (wielding a newly forged Star Sword) and by Father Gorm himself.[3]
