Quote1 I thought we were going to be speaking to Britannia. We wouldn't have dedicated so much time in the schedule if we'd known it was just going to be Union Jack... Quote2

Synopsis for "The Britannia Project, Part One: The Flag Game"

A children’s cartoon introduces Britannia and her nemesis, Doc Croc. Croc thinks he has Britannia captured, but like all British people, Britannia is “too stubborn to give up!”. 10 Downing Street announces a new vision for British heroism, a four-nations initiative named the Britannia Project where Britannia will lead Snakes, The Choir and Kelpie as an example of how Britons working together can be truly great. They’re due to be introduced on breakfast television, while at Brean Down Fort off the West coast of England, a plant-the-flag wargame is under way, with Union Jack outmanned and outgunned by unseen assailants. As the last of Jack’s team of guards is brought down by a murderous puddle, a shadowy figure orders Kelpie to stop and Jack makes a break for the floating objective. Just as Jack is about to win the game, Britannia tackles him to the floor, offering a hand he uses as leverage to throw her to the ground, springing past her to successfully claim a win... having left the flag in Britannia’s hands.

The breakfast TV interview begins, with the hosts expressing disappointment that their interview is with Jack and not “Britain’s most beloved super-person” Britannia. Government MP Selwyn James introduces the team, while Britannia berates the team’s financial backer, Steve Darwin, for putting his corporate logo on the game flag. There’s friction between the new superteam and the wargame guards, but Union Jack steps in to calm things down. Darwin requests a photo with Jack, but a dragon shadow forming over the sun distracts Jack and descends upon them in the form of one of Knull’s symbiotes. Britannia springs forth, sword drawn, and beheads the dragon as the floating TV camera gets in her face and the dragon spears her through the chest with its tail. Union Jack cradles the dying Britannia as the symbiote tendrils slither from soldier to soldier, and as Britannia dies in his arms he turns to see the guards are all Knullified. Drawing Britannia’s sword, he lunges for the symbiote-guards, backed up by Snakes, The Choir and Kelpie.
