Quote1 Yes... a most interesting assignment. My past contact with this Adam Warlock has proven him to be an intriguing Individual... almost a secret wrapped within an enigma... and if there's anything I really love, it's a mystery. Quote2

Warlock #15

Warlock decides to find a new home since both Earth and Counter-Earth (High Evolutionary) are too small for him. Thanos sends Gamora to find Warlock for his future plans and wants Gamora to become Warlock's unofficial bodyguard, another reason he sent her off is because he knows that Gamora would turn on him if she would find out what he was really up to. Warlock saves an old man named Lamilm Gor from a couple of big creatures, an alien named Marr Gar explains to Warlock that Gor received a loan of 5000 credits and now can't pay his debt so they are repossessing his space craft. Since Gar and his consorts would have left the Gor behind in space Warlock helps him and suggests that he raise the funds to repay Gar's employers from Interplaneteur Inc. Meanwhile, Gamora's ship is destroyed by Drax who seeks Thanos.

On a planet that has left its orbit and is now drifting through space Warlock meets an alien calling itself an Ancient Traveler or a Humble Thinker, he tells Warlock that life is its own purpose. The Traveler tells Warlock that he has seen his future and before being killed by Thanos and himself, Warlock will see Gamora, Pip, and many others die and that Warlock will cause the death of the High Evolutionary. On the planet Degenera, Pip is about to be arrested by Constable Trueheart but manages to escape.

On a deserted planet Warlock wants to find out the secrets of the Soul Gem and is pulled inside it, there the Gem reveals that it is one of six. The Gem tries to make Warlock its slave but he manages to overcome the Gem by threatening to end his life leaving the Gem alone on a planet which it can't leave.

Synopsis for "Spider, Spider on the Moon!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Marvel Team-Up #55

Spider-Man is hallucinating from lack of oxygen as the rocket he is aboard speeds into space. Meanwhile, on Earth, the Hulk watches as the rocket disappears from sight, and growing weary of his interactions with Humans, he bounds away. Elsewhere in the facility, Woodgod realizes that his entire family and friends have all been slain and decides that he is going to strike out against humanity.

In space, Spider-Man realizes he is about to die and just as his oxygen runs out, his rocket is intercepted by Adam Warlock. Warlock uses his Soul Gem to transport himself and the rocket to the oxygen-rich Blue Area of the Moon. Pulling Spider-Man free from the craft, the Wall-Crawler is grateful for Warlock's help, when he suddenly realizes he's on the Moon. As Spider-Man attempts to figure out how he's going to get home, they are attacked by the Stranger, who has come to claim Adam's Soul Gem. He downs Warlock in one blast, prompting Spider-Man to attack the Stranger for his savior. Spider-Man is easily overpowered by the Stranger, who tosses him away into the Blue Area's teeming forest. Knocked out from impacting with a tree, Spider-Man's body is found by another being who happens to be on the moon.

As the Stranger and Warlock continue to fight, the Stranger gains the upper hand and knocks out Warlock, and restrains him in order to remove his Soul Gem. Spider-Man is revived by the Gardener, who is in the Blue Area with his own Soul Gem using its power to cultivate the garden in the Blue Area. When Spider-Man learns that the Gardener is not a fighter, he leaves to go and tackle the Stranger alone. Using all his webbing Spider-Man ensnares the Stranger in a cocoon of webbing. However, this only proves to anger the Stranger, who busts out of the webbing.

As the Stranger attempts to kill Spider-Man, the Gardener looks on, struggling to decide whether he should get involved or not. It's not until the Stranger destroys one of his plants that the Gardener decides to get involved and attacks the Stranger. Freeing Adam Warlock, both he and the Gardener combine their powers. Although this causes the lush forest to die off, the power is sufficient enough to force the Stranger to retreat to avoid his own destruction. In the aftermath of the battle, the Gardener realizes the folly of his ways and now that he has turned his Soul Gem into a weapon, refuses to use it again. He then teleports away to seek out a new place to create a garden.

With the battle over, Adam Warlock takes Spider-Man back to Earth before heading onto his next destination - Counter-Earth. He leaves an unseen metallic egg behind, waiting for the right moment to open.

Synopsis for "The Final Threat"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Avengers Annual #7

Captain Marvel and Moondragon arrive at Avengers Mansion, closely followed by Adam Warlock, who reveals that Thanos has returned, gathered the energies of the six Soul Gems in a giant synthetic jewel, and plans to snuff out the stars themselves. The heroes rocket into space to stop Thanos' approaching armada. As they combat a horde of alien foes, Warlock finds his companion, Pip the Troll. The troll is alive, however, his mind has been destroyed by Thanos, and Warlock absorbs his spirit into his Soul Gem, just as he had earlier done with the dying Gamora.

Warlock and Captain Marvel then locate Thanos and the Captain is knocked unconscious as he smashes the villain's energy-projector. Warlock and Thanos clash, and the golden-skinned hero falls. Thor arrives to engage Thanos, while Iron Man destroys the villain's artificial soul gem. Foiled, the Titan vanishes. Nearby, an astonished Captain Marvel watches as a second Warlock appears from the past and absorbs the spirit of his dying present self. Warlock awakens to find himself reunited with his friends in a world of peace and happiness within the Soul Gem itself.
