Fiorello La Guardia was a politician and best known as a mayor of New York City.

History

Fiorello La Guardia's earliest recorded appearance was during a public appearance in 1934 to dedicate the opening of a new building. Unknown to La Guardia he was targeted for assassination during this appearance. This attempt was later foiled by Doc Savage and his Fabulous Five.[1]

In 1939, the city of New York was being terrorized by a gang calling themselves the Six Big Men. La Guardia swore in a group of what he believed to be upstanding citizens to be part of a special investigation into the group. La Guardia was unaware that Dr. Horace Lang was secretly the Six Big Men's leader. The gang was later decimated by the costumed vigilante known as Angel.[2] A year later, La Guardia's office sanctioned the android Human Torch as a New York Police. The mayor also threatened to call the National Guard to deal with the threat of the Sub-Mariner. Such threats were met with mockery and laughter from the undersea monarch, which prompted the New York City Police Department to send the Human Torch after him.[3] The Torch and Sub-Mariner later fought across New York, but eventually Namor was convinced to cease his hostilities toward the city.[4]

In 1944, during World War II, Nazi supercriminal Baron Blood managed to build a primitive fission bomb, combining the Nazi project with information stolen from US's Manhattan Project, and threatened to detonate it in New York City lest the United States retreated their troops from Africa and Great Britain, and started negotiations of peace with the Axis. The Mayor of New York City, who was La Guardia at that point, refused to comply, as the President and the State Governor did - instead, they resorted to superhuman agents to stop the threat, which they apparently did.[5]
