History

The Forgotten are a group of four Eternals who came together less than 10,000 years ago. They differ from most other Eternals in their belief that the Second Principle that compels them to protect the Machine should be broadly interpreted in a way that includes prioritizing human welfare over Eternal welfare. Aside from protecting humans from threats, these human-centric radicals have also taken it upon themselves to punish Eternals who have abused humans.[1]

The inspiration for the group was the Forgotten One, an individual whose true Eternal name has been removed from the Machine's records. The other three Forgotten joined him to form the group but their true names are still known. The four of them have removed themselves from the Uni-Mind,[1] in part because of their rejection of Eternal society, but also because they know that, if they were to ever participate in a Uni-Mind, the other Eternals would take the opportunity to mindwipe them.[2]

Recently, when the Resurrection Machines were damaged by an unknown party, Sersi, Ikaris, Thena and Kingo Sunen suspected that the Forgotten One might be responsible because he had sabotaged the resurrection systems once before. Accordingly, they set a trap that used an unwitting Tony Stark as bait. Once the Forgotten One had shown himself, he was attacked by Ikaris who flew him a safe distance away from New York City. Ikaris then attacked again, distracting the Forgotten One so that he didn't notice the arrival of Thena and Kingo Sunen who were able to ambush him and chain him up. The four Eternals were then joined by Sersi who explained their deception. However, after talking with their captive, the four concluded that he was not responsible. At that point, the Forgotten One pointed out that, while he had fallen into their trap, they had also fallen into a trap, directing their attention to the red dots that had appeared on the bodies of three of them. With these laser sights revealing their position, the other three members of the Forgotten could be seen targeting them from the nearby woods. The Forgotten One then demanded to be freed or the others would open fire. Before any drastic action could be taken, the Forgotten One agreed to cooperate in order to prove his innocence. The group of five then used the Machine's transit system to teleport to the Isolation, leaving the three other Forgotten behind so that they could kill the four if they double-crossed the Forgotten One.[1]

Once the crisis had been resolved and an election of the Prime Eternal was held, none of the Forgotten voted for either Zuras or Thanos because doing so would have required them to join the Uni-Mind.[2]
