History

Three months and three days after the murder of his wife and children, Frank Castle read in the Daily Bugle about the number of gun-related deaths in the city the year before his family was killed and something inside him snapped. He then viewed each life as a number, a credit in the wealth of the city, and each death was a debit against the city. Swearing that the debits must equal the credits, he gathered what weapons he could and vowed to take the life of one who was not innocent for every life lost, and he would catalogue the name of each person who was killed. Forgetting to eat and sleep, he did everything possible to balance his books. The following year, the Daily Bugle reported that the number of deaths from guns had exactly doubled.[1]
