Fritz von Arnheim was a Nazi spy who was active during World War II. He gained notoriety as being one of the FBI's most sought after spies. In 1944, he took over the home of and posed as Civil War veteran Herman the Hermit who lived along the Mississippi River near a concentration camp where Nazi prisoners of war were kept. Fritz helped break out Nazi agents and led raids on the concentration camp to free his comrades.
His activities gained the attention of the Human Torch and Toro who were taking a trip down the river. The Torch and Toro traveled to Herman the Hermit's home to apprehend Herman but were tricked into flying into a vacuum sealed room. When Fritz and his minions left to make another attack on the concentration camp. The Torch and Toro were freed by the real Herman the Hermit who assisted the Torch and Toro in capturing the escaped Nazi spies.
When Fritz attempted to escape in a car, the Torch forced him to crash. He was unmasked and then turned over to the authorities.[1] His subsequent fate is unknown.
