Synopsis for "And Some People Left for Heaven Without Warning"

Fury stood by the injured Hatherly, as French planes fired on everything in the area. Hatherly brought up the fact that they were fighting alongside Nazis, such as Steinhoff, and planned to submit a report on him to the State Department. However, Fury explained that their government and that of the French would ignore the past of Nazis such as Steinhoff and Von Braun if they provided value. Fury also claimed that if he was anywhere else, he would shoot Steinhoff, himself. Then, the two both claimed that they probably shot some of their allies during the battle with Fury claiming that it "just gets like that."

A helicopter landed to escort Fury, although the officer insisted on escorting Hatherly out, instead, much to his and the pilot's refusal. After the helicopter left with Hatherly, Major Lallement briefed Fury before planes destroyed their ammunition dump. Fury believed that it was sabotage and that they had someone on the inside with them before a soldier carried a satchel to a bunker and caused an explosion, moments before the Viet Minh launched an attack on them. Steinhoff rushed to defend the camp from the Viet Minh, although Fury just sat in the middle of the field, as the German was surrounded by the enemy and stabbed to death by bayonets.

At McCuskey's office, he and Shirley contemplated Fury disregarding the orders he gave to the pilot to extract him. Back at the battlefield, Fury woke up after twenty-four hours with a concussion before being surrounded by Viet Minh and Captain Letrong Giap, who declared that his faction had won the war and that French Indochina was not French, but actually Vietnam. Then, Fury and the local communist turned towards a trail decorated by dead soldiers' severed heads on sticks, including those of Lallement's and Steinhoff's.
