History

G'illian Blax'zthor was a Skrull born with the mutant powers of changing her size at will in addition to the standard shapeshifting power of her species. These additional powers, as well as her distaste for war, ostracized her from her peers.[1] When she was conscripted into the Skrull military and sent to Earth during the Skrull's secret invasion, G'illian quickly defected and posted as a lamppost in Central Park for months before opting to change into a squirrel. While living like that, G'illian found out about Squirrel Girl. In awe of the heroine's happy life, G'illian decided to craft a human identity for herself rather than replace an existing person, so she became Gillian Blythe. But as an interstellar refugee, Gillian didn't have any of the documentation needed to be hired for a job or secure housing.

True form

While keeping track of Skrull transmissions, G'illian learned that she had been labelled a traitor for going AWOL and not completing her mission of infiltration. She decided to impersonate Squirrel Girl and fake her death in battle against the Octobliterator; she counted on the real Squirrel Girl to quickly disprove her own death, causing the Skrull Empire to assume that the dead impostor had been G'illian and call off the manhunt for her. However, Squirrel Girl instead investigated quietly the circumstances of her presumed death. After the rodent hero went to Tony Stark to confide in him, G'illian replaced him and contacted Squirrel Girl in an attempt to get her to expose that she was alive posthaste.[1] G'illian blew her cover when she let it slip that she didn't know Squirrel Girl and Doreen Green were the same person.[3] After attempting to argue that she was the true Tony Stark to no avail, G'illian eventually shape-shifted back into her true form and escaped, keeping the real Stark hostage in a cell made out of her shape-shifted arm.[4]

Squirrel Girl and her allies eventually tracked down Tony Stark, finding G'illian in the process. She surrendered and explained the circumstances behind her actions, only asking for help hiding and for Squirrel Girl to publicly reveal that she was alive. Tony initially refused to collaborate due to his previous experiences with Skrulls, but Squirrel Girl convinced him to challenge his preconceptions about Skrulls. Stark held a press conference where he pretended to exhibit G'illian's corpse in order to solidify the pretense of her death, and then provided her with all the papers necessary to live on Earth, as well as an entry-level job at Stark Unlimited. Squirrel Girl also introduced Gillian to Tara Tam to help her acclimate to life on Earth.[1]

G'illian was one of the many friends and allies of Squirrel Girl to come to her aid in battling Iron Ring's villain alliance in Central Park.[5]

Tony had G'illian impersonate him to make his super hero job easier, and soon she was joined by other beneficent Skrulls like T'idd. When a group of Skrulls began another attempt to secretly take over Earth, Stark decided to reveal the existence of his Skrull employees to C.I.A. agent Maria Hill who had been investigating the matter. At first she was distrustful of G'illian and her fellow Skrulls,[6] but decided to be open-minded and ask their help in thwarting the second Secret Invasion.

T'idd disguised as Maria Hill herself began transporting the Skrull that Hill had captured, while G'illian took the appearance of several deceased Skrulls to make it seem like Hill had killed Stark's Skrulls.[7] During the transport, Stark in his Iron Man armor broke inside the flying craft and "fought" against "Hill" as revenge for killing his Skrulls, allowing the imprisoned Skrull to escape and kidnap T'idd.[8] With their plan going as expected, G'illian and Tony left the destroyed ship and began working together with the Avengers in tracking down the Skrulls that had infiltrated America's nuclear facilities.[7]
