Synopsis for "Into the Breach"
The following text describes events that take place in Sierra Gordo. The Joes arrive at the American Embassy to evacuate the ambassador, but find it overrun by rioters and looters. Roadblock stops a man trying to burn the US flag, leading to a conversation between Hawk and the ambassador about the reasons behind the locals' hatred of the USA. Meanwhile, General Villavaca is destroying Terror Dromes in his country with the help of armament bought from Destro. Inside the Terrordrome, Zarana orders a Firebat to be launched to create a diversion, and the Dreadnoks escape in the Thunder Machine, shooting Villavaca's troops as they leave. Destro suggests that Villavaca returns to the capital, as he believes the ambassador is leaving for Washington with documents that could be embarrassing to the North American banana monopoly.
At the embassy, the ambassador is packing up documents, and Roadblock puts explosives to blow up the rest. Villavaca and his troops surround the embassy in search of an investigative report about his links with the North American Banana Monopoly, which is in the ambassador's briefcase. Goodfellow notices this and informs Villavaca just before the embassy explodes, creating a diversion for the Joes to escape. At the airport, the Dreadnoks hijack a plane with local refugees as hostages, and take off before the Joes can reach them. One of the plane's engines is shot by Villavaca's troops, while the Joes are saved by local counter-revolutionaries who offer to escort them to the border.
Goodfellow tells Villavaca that they can mobilize a force to stop the Joes from reaching the border, and both discuss needing more sophisticated weapons to buy from Destro. Meanwhile, Destro tries on his new battle armor, and the Sergeant Major tries on the first Iron Grenadier uniform. It turns out that the Sergeant Major was the one who radioed the counter-revolutionaries, and he and Destro have created a situation and market to sell weapons to both sides.
Overall, the text describes a complex web of political and military maneuvers involving the Joes, General Villavaca, the Dreadnoks, the North American Banana Monopoly, and Destro. The events highlight the consequences of exploitation and political instability in developing countries, and the ways in which different actors seek to gain power and profit from these situations.
