Synopsis for "Aftershocks"
The text follows a series of events involving different characters, taking place after a tactical withdrawal of the Joes from Cobra Island. Zarana's comment about Lady Jaye sparks a cat fight between the two women, which is watched by the rest of the Joes and Cobras. Lt. Falcon and the recon team arrive on the scene, but Captain Minh is gone. Hawk decides to use Cobra choppers to transport the wounded while he and Roadblock return to the USS Flagg to travel to the Pentagon with General Hollingsworth. Destro and Baroness relax aboard his cruise ship and watch the USS Flagg pass by. Doctor Mindbender arranges to have Serpentor's body frozen but privately strikes a deal with Cobra Commander. The Jugglers are planning to cover up GI Joe's actions, leading to Hawk, Roadblock, and Hollingsworth's arrest and psychiatric evaluation. Roadblock escapes and seeks help from Dr. Burkhart.
The first paragraph describes a cat fight between Zarana and Lady Jaye. After the Joes' tactical withdrawal from Cobra Island, Cobra Commander allows them to leave, and Zarana comments about how glad she is to see the back of the Baroness. When she expands her comment to include Lady Jaye as "worthless trash," it provokes a cat fight between the two women. Lt. Falcon and the recon team arrive on the scene, but Captain Minh is gone. Hawk decides to use Cobra choppers to transport the wounded while he and Roadblock return to the USS Flagg to travel to the Pentagon with General Hollingsworth.
The second paragraph features Destro and Baroness relaxing aboard his cruise ship. Destro lets her believe that recovering her was the sole reason for his visit to Cobra Island, and in return Baroness tells him that Cobra Commander is really Fred VII. They see the USS Flagg pass by and wave to them peacefully. Meanwhile, Doctor Mindbender arranges to have Serpentor's body frozen but privately strikes a deal with Cobra Commander. Minh jumps on Cobra Commander and attempts to remove his helmet without the entry code, telling him he'll reveal his identity as Fred unless he provides him with a new boat.
The third paragraph reveals that the Jugglers are planning to cover up GI Joe's actions, leading to Hawk, Roadblock, and Hollingsworth's arrest and psychiatric evaluation. When Hawk and Hollingsworth refuse to go along with the cover story, General Malthus orders their arrest. Roadblock demands a guarantee that he'll be in the clear afterward before making a run for it, which they give. He escapes and seeks help from Dr. Burkhart.
The text highlights the various events taking place simultaneously, featuring different characters. While some characters are trying to cover up GI Joe's actions, others are seeking the truth. Roadblock's escape and Dr. Burkhart's help-seeking suggest that the Joes are not entirely out of the game. The text sets the stage for future conflicts between the Joes and Cobras.
