Synopsis for "Weeding Out"
Duke and Zap wake up a group of trainees for early morning PT, but one of them complains about their forced march. Duke orders the man to be sent to the worst place possible. The group does their training, and Lightfoot notes that less than 50 out of over 200 trainees are left. Duke challenges the recruits to an indefinite number of push-ups while he goes to breakfast, and several give up. The rest carry on and are stopped at 250.
Later, the trainees are taken on a 16-mile jog and shown six hours of driver safety films, with anyone who falls asleep being eliminated. They then have an hour's melee with pugil sticks, and only Lightfoot, Budo, and Repeater remain standing at the end. They are driven back to the company area by Cover Girl, given a large meal, and told they can sleep in the next day. However, they are soon awakened and told they are moving out in full field gear.
The recruits are taken to the Picatinny Arsenal, which is under attack by unknown forces. Grand-Slam takes the new recruits onto the ground to cover the exit, while the rest of the team heads for the main building. Repeater believes it's a simulation, but they soon come under fire from Cobra assault teams. The three recruits fight off the Vipers, with Repeater taking out the approaching truck, which explodes later due to a time-delay mine planted by Lightfoot.
The group is pushed to their limits in physical training, driver safety films, and melee training. The final test of their skills comes when they are sent to the Picatinny Arsenal, where they are attacked by Cobra forces. The three recruits, Lightfoot, Budo, and Repeater, work together to take down the enemy and save the day. The text shows the determination, grit, and teamwork required to become a G.I. Joe member.
