History
While pregnant with him, Juliana Reyes had a bad fall after being pushed down the stairs by her brother-in-law Eli Morrow,[1] causing Gabe to be born with no motor control over his legs. After his parents' death, he was raised by his brother, Roberto Reyes.[2]
Robbie struggled to provide for his brother, working in Canelo's Auto and Body besides going to school while Gabe received treatment for his legs at Patrick Wellman Development Center. However, one day, Gabe was attacked by a gang of bullies from Robbie's school, Guero and his partners Herna and Julio, who stole his wheelchair. Robbie tried to intervene and help his little brother, only for him to be beaten. This left Robbie to carry Gabe on his back and borrowing a cheaper wheelchair from Mrs. Valenzuela.[3]
As Gabe and his friends were going back home from school, their school bus nearly crashed into a heated battle between a criminal gang, Mr. Hyde's cartel and the new Ghost Rider. The Ghost Rider managed to drive away the criminals, and helped Gabe get to safety. This made Gabe ecstatic, though he was unaware that the new Ghost Rider was none other than his older brother Robbie. Following that, Robbie, in his Ghost Rider form, beat up Guero and his fellow bullies, getting Gabe's wheelchair back.[4]
Thankfully, Gabe's condition was improving as time went, prompting Doctor Dacosta relay the good news to Robbie.[5] Unfortunately, one day, after his encounter with the original Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, Robbie became fully possessed by the spirit of his diabolical uncle Eli. Taking control of Robbie's body Eli entered Gabe's room and shoved him aside out of his bed which he flipped in order to acquire a list that he had hidden beneath the Reyes residence when he was alive. Upon getting what he wanted, Eli immediately left the house, leaving Gabe all alone on the cold floor and hungry. The poor boy was unable to get back on his wheelchair, and was forced to crawl to the fridge where he could only eat what was at the bottom.[6] After Johnny helped Robbie regain control, the latter rushed back to his home, finding Gabe sleeping on the floor. He profusely apologized to Gabe as he carried his little brother to his room, but the young boy was too tired to talk to Robbie.[7]
This incident strained Gabe's relationship with his brother. Getting sick of Robbie's morality getting in the way of his revenge, Eli began speaking to Gabe, promising him to turn the boy into a superhero while making him further distance himself from Robbie. As Robbie was too busy to take care of Gabe he asked his friend Lisa to babysit his brother. Lisa attempted to gain Gabe's affection as she wished to enter a relationship with Robbie, but Gabe could see that and grew hostile towards her, walking out of her care to interact with Eli. This culminated in a fight between the brothers, ending with Gabe telling Robbie he hated him.[8]
Eli was able to convince Gabe to let him possess his body, transforming him into a fiery beast resembling his hero Ninja Wolf with his crutches fused to his arms. Eli hoped to use Gabe in enacting his revenge on the man responsible for his death, the Russian mob boss Yegor Ivanov. While hanging out with Lisa, Gabe sneaked away and climbed to the top of a building where he transformed. As Ivanov was traveling on his car, Gabe, possessed by Eli, jumped on top of the car, intending to kill him as a heroic act. Luckily, Robbie arrived just in time after figuring out Eli had left him for his brother. He was forced to fight his brother, but during the fight Robbie reached out to Gabe, telling him he was sorry and that he loved him. Eli urged Gabe to keep fighting, but Gabe refused, telling Robbie that he also loved him which caused him to calm down and be freed of the evil spirit.[9]
Following the devastating war on the multiverse, Robbie was left stranded in the God Quarry,[10] leaving Gabe under the weekly care of the Avengers. One day, wanting to celebrate the memory of Robbie and to give himself hope of his return, Gabe and his friend Charlene Ocampo made an ofrenda in his image. Gabe decided to also bring the Avengers, so he made severe noise to disturb the neighbors who would call the police. When the police arrived, Gabe used a voice changer to disguise himself as a criminal holding him hostage. This forced the police to notify the Avengers about this, and soon Captain America and Captain Marvel arrived to descalate the situation. Finding out what was really going on, the two Avengers reprimanded Gabe for this reckless behavior, but he responded that he only wished to honor Robbie alongside them. He expressed his grief over the loss of his brother and his insecurity, leading to the heroes and Charlene comforting him.[11]Attributes
