Gah Lak Tus was an immense (approx. 100,000 miles long) collective of city-sized robotic drones that invaded other worlds using a combination of envoys and a flesh-eating virus to eliminate native biological lifeforms.

History

Gah Lak Tus was an huge swarm of robotic drones that the race known as the Kree of the universe Earth-1610 created in the distant past to wipe out all of their enemies. The Kree lost control of the drones, and spent the next number of eons preparing large space arks on their planet to one day evacuate large swaths of their population in the eventuality that Gah Lak Tus ever returned to destroy their planet.[1] Meanwhile, Gah Lak Tus travelled across the universe, searching for energy sources for it to consume and absorbing the energy of any lifeforms and technology it could find, including entire planets.[2]

Original form

For millennia, the Gah Lak Tus swarm flew through the galaxies, destroying all life-bearing planets in its path. For planets that it intended to consume, Gah Lak Tus bombarded the targeted worlds with psychic "fear" broadcasts ahead of its flesh-eating swarm of robots that would eradicate all life. Following all life on the planets being consumed, Gah Lak Tus would break open the dying worlds and access each planet's core, sucking dry all of the world's energy and leaving a permanently lifeless husk.[citation needed]

Gah Lak Tus' creators, the Kree, eventually designed a hyper-advanced android known as "Vision" whom they commissioned to to make contact with other worlds in Gah Lak Tus' path and warn those worlds of their doom in advance, hoping the contacted races could evacuate some of their populations before extinction. Vision made contact with the planet Earth in the year 1904 but crash-landed in the sub-arctic Tunguska region of Siberia. Twenty-three years later, Soviet explorers found the Vision in a self-repair coma. The Soviet authorities began a decades-long dissection of Vision, using her technology to supply their Super-Soldier program. A decade later, in the 2000s, the Vision was eventually repaired and able to deliver her warning. By the time Gah Lak Tus arrived to Earth mere days later, Earth's heroes (including the Ultimates, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men) were able to develop a plan to defend their planet. Human mutants Jean Grey and Professor Xavier distracted Gah Lak Tus by making a direct psychic contact with the entity, allowing scientist Reed Richards the time needed to utilize a weapon called the Ultimate Nullifier, which teleported the latent energy of a Big Bang from another universe into the heart of the Gah Lak Tus swarm, and destroyed 20% of its mass. Heavily damaged and "tainted" by the the interaction with the psychic thoughts and emotions of humanity, Gah Lak Tus retreated from Earth and fled elsewhere in the galaxy in search of weaker prey.[citation needed]

Merging with Galactus[]

Years later after its failed incursion on Earth, while Gah Lak Tus was roaming the galaxies and was in the middle of consuming the soldiers from a space battle taking place between the Chitauri and Kree races, a rift in the fabric of reality opened up. (Triggered by an event in an alternate universe.) Through this rift came Gah Lak Tus' alternate-universe self from the universe Earth-616. This alternate self was known as Galactus, and upon contact in trying to consume Galactus, the robot swarm Gah Lak Tus instead began to merge with its counterpart. This resulted in making Galactus stronger, and gave him full control over the robotic swarm. [2]

Merging into Galactus

Nearby cosmic superheroes Silver Surfer and Nova attempted to battle the new Galactus, but were quickly overwhelmed and instead retreated by using a portal to teleport to Earth. The surviving Kree armada from the nearby space battle when Galactus and Gah Lak Tus merged quickly escaped the solar system and intentionally triggered a supernova of the nearby star, hoping its explosion would eradicate Galactus and Gah Lak Tus. Instead, Galactus absorbed the energy from the explosion and became stronger. Meanwhile, the Silver Surfer and Nova found that a few Gah Lak Tus drones had teleported through their portal with them to Earth, and the drones immediately merged with some members of the organic sea life on the planet and battled the two heroes. The heroes were assisted in defeating the isolated Gah Lak Tus by an Earth-dwelling Kree known as Captain Mahr Vehl, who detected the arrival of Gah Lak Tus when it appeared on Earth.[3]

Fully merged with Galactus

Captain Mahr Vehl revealed that he possessed weapons designed by the Kree that were strong enough to destroy the Gah Lak Tus swarm, and that he himself had dedicated his life to eliminating the monster.[1] Mahr Vehl and the Silver Surfer travelled to the Kree homeworld of Hala, where the new Galactus was moving to consume next. Captain Mahr Vell found that his weapons which were effective against the Gah Lak Tus swarm had no effect on Galactus, but he and the Silver Surfer fought the enemy anyway and were eventually joined by Nova again. Gah Lak Tus nearly defeated Nova, but Captain Mahr Vell saved his fellow hero at the last moment, sacrificing his own life instead. Upon death, Captain Mahr Vehl revealed to his two allies that his armor contained a warhead explosive powerful enough to eliminate the entire Gah Lak Tus swarm. Nova took the armor upon himself, dubbed himself Captain Marvel, and teleported the merged Galactus and Gah Lak Tus far away where he could detonate the warhead without endangering other inhabited planets. This successfully destroyed the entire Gah Lak Tus swarm, though it only damaged and depowered Galactus, who left to go feed upon the planet Earth to reconstitute his health.[4]

Attributes

Powers

  • Fear Rays: Gah Lak Tus can generate "fear rays" from space on psychic frequencies, rendering a targeted population permanently insane within hours. Gah Lak Tus' modules can release flesh-eating viruses capable of devouring organic life on a planetary scale within hours; the modules can also penetrate a planet’s core and tap its thermal power, transferring it to Gah Lak Tus' main body.

Gah Lak Tus has recently acquired the powers of Galactus after merging with him:

Galactus is able to employ the near limitless cosmic energy within him to produce virtually any effect he desires. A few of the abilities he displayed are:

  • God-like Strength: Galactus possesses an astronomical amount of super-strength.
  • God-like Stamina: Galactus can partake in physical strenuous action, like battles, for an undefined period of time.
  • God-like Speed: Despite his size, Galactus can move at speeds that greatly surpass the speed of light.
  • Invulnerability: Galactus is immune to all diseases, ailments, and toxins, and, he is nearly impenetrable towards almost every force.
  • Levitation: Galactus can traverse or glide through the air using sheer willpower.
  • Size-Alteration: Galactus can manipulate his size, density, mass and ratio at will, allowing him to reshape his body to any physique type he wishes. In fact, being a force of nature, and not a purely physical entity, every sentient race across the universe sees Galactus in a different form.[5]
  • Molecular Restructuring: Galactus can manipulate, reshape and rearrange the molecular complexions of any organism, allowing him to rebuild or redesign things internally.[6]
  • Matter Transmutation: Being a cosmic being, Galactus can control matter in any object which allows him to turn something tangible like lead, into something intangible like water.[7][8]
  • Cosmic Teleportation: Galactus can make himself, other people, and objects appear anywhere in the entire universe that he wishes with a mere thought.[9][10] He has even teleported an entire galaxy.[5]
  • Cosmic Force-Fields: Galactus can erect near-impenetrable energy shields.[7]
  • Cosmic Energy Projection: Galactus can project supremely powerful energy emissions with incalculable concussive force.[11]
  • Interdimensional & Intradimensional Portals: He can create wormholes between dimensions and within dimensions.[12][13]
  • Cosmic Telepathy: Ability to read or communicate with other minds across universal distances.[14][15]
  • Cosmic Telekinesis: Ability to move virtually unlimited amounts of mass through mental concentration.[16]
  • Cosmic Awareness: Galactus can sense disturbances or changes within the cosmic ether on a universal scale.[17]
  • Resurrection: He can raise the dead.[18]
  • Creation: Galactus can create complex, sentient, biological or bio-technical life-forms from nothing.[19]
  • Soul Control & Manipulation: Galactus can control and manipulate the souls and spirits of living beings at will.[15] He uses this power to alter the memories and emotions of others.
  • Recreation: Being a cosmic being, Galactus can create an entire Solar System, including populations, the planets, etc. in every detail. [15]
  • Power/Ability Bestowal: Galactus' heralds, whom he has endowed with a minuscule fraction of his cosmic power, are able to manipulate matter and energy in ways that are far beyond human comprehension.
  • Vitakinesis: Galactus is able to heal himself and others from all physical wounds although this may simply be molecular reconstruction.

Weaknesses

Cosmic Hunger: Galactus requires unknown energies obtainable only from a certain type of planets in order to sustain his life. The suitable type of planet need not to be one where life is present, but it must have the potential to support life. When recently sated Galactus is incredibly powerful; however, the longer he goes without feeding the more his strength, power, and cosmic awareness wane. Indeed, over one month after consuming a suitable planet his power will have already been reduced exponentially, although in such a hungered state his powers are still far beyond mortal comprehension. In recent times Galactus has been known to go without feeding for numerous months at a time bringing him to the brink of death and reducing his power to such a degree he actually becomes partially susceptible to direct attacks from superhuman teams such as the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, Avengers, the Fantastic Four etc although even in this significantly weakened state of power, he is still more powerful than the superhuman teams combined and still one of the most powerful beings in the Universe. When the universe was still young, Galactus could go without feeding for over century before his hunger weakened him to a significant degree, why the intervals between his feedings has decreased over the millenia is unknown.

Trivia

  • Ultimate Gah Lak Tus destroys planets not only to feed on the planets thermal energy but to also eliminate the threat of the sentient species themselves who disgust, feeding on a planet simply provides him with enough energy to continue his travels, prior to merging with Galactus.
  • According to Mahr Vehl the Swarm was built by the Ancient Kree Eons ago to "purify" the universe, and wipe out all their enemies. Sadly it got away from them and evolved over time into its current form. [1]
  • Gah Lak Tus considered all manner of organic life abhorrent, for instance when it made telepathic contact with Professor X, it regarded the experience as a desecration.
