History

After Galactus lay dying on Earth as a result of his battle with Terrax and the Fantastic Four,[1] the Black Celestial restored him to full health but increased his hunger. Subsequently, Galactus then used his technology to create a black hole to draw enough matter to him to satisfy his hunger, eventually warping space and time around him to such an extent that it created a Time Bubble. The Time Bubble prevented time travel before and after, extended across other timelines, and threatened to destroy the entire universe. The Black Celestial's technology would ensure his own survival and would allow him to start a new universe. Eventually, the Fantastic Four entered the Time Bubble with their Time-Sled and tried to destroy Galactus' machines with Shi'ar weapons, but were foiled by the Black Celestial. The FF tricked the Black Celestial into believing that they were going to time travel to warn the other Celestials and the Black Celestial followed them using his own time travelling power. However, the Time Bubble made time travel vastly more difficult, forcing the Black Celestial to expend a massive amount of energy as he went back and forth in time around the Time Bubble to chase the FF's Time-Sled. After weakening the Black Celestial to the point that he would not be able to escape Galactus' black hole, the FF then lured the Black Celestial into it. The massive energy from the Celestial restored Galactus' sanity and he signalled the FF to retrieve the Ultimate Nullifier to destroy him and the Time Bubble.[2]

Notes

  • This character and Earth-8810 are part of a massive retcon to the Time Bubble. In the original story, the Time Bubble existed in Earth-616's future and it contained a weapon created by the Dreaming Celestial.[5] To support this, Kang the Conqueror attempted to seal the Celestial's weapon from the still-asleep Dreaming Celestial in present-day Earth-616.[6] However, Fantastic Four #337341 retconned much of what was originally stated about the Time Bubble and revealed that it was created after the "Black Celestial" saved Galactus' life, contradicting what happens in Fantastic Four #243244, and increased his hunger; the weapon itself became a weaponized Galactus, who built machines to draw in the universe. Thus, the Time Bubble was changed to exist in an alternate reality.
