Marvel Comics[]

Red Wolf and Western stories[]

For Marvel Comics, Gardner Fox first created the 19th century Red Wolf (the third Marvel character to use the moniker, and the second using this mantle as the agent of Owayodata), Johnny Wakely, in Marvel Spotlight #1 (November, 1971).

He was the major writer for this character's series, writing from Red Wolf #2 (July, 1972) to 8 (July, 1973), the first issue as well as the ninth and last issue being written by Roy Thomas. In "Echo From a Golden Grave!" (Red Wolf #7; May, 1973), he introduced yet another Red Wolf, Thomas Thunderhead.

He wrote "Rodeo Doom-Day!" in Gunhawk (Vol. 2) #7 (October, 1973), the last issue of the series.

Gardner Fox's "Kothar and the Conjurer's Curse" was adapted by Marvel Comics as a six-part Conan story written by Roy Thomas, starting with Conan the Barbarian #46 ("The Curse of the Conjurer" (January, 1975), and concluding in 51 (June, 1975).
