History
The Gates of Otherworld are located on a small island nearby the village of Stanleigh, England, and connects the Earth realm to Avalon.[1] From Avalon’s side, the gate merely appears as the entrance of a cave.[2] In order to cross over from one realm to the other, one must withstand a blast of solar wind from the deepest reaches of space.[1] From Earth’s side, the gate appears as a large doorway adorned with the same signs as Captain Britain’s Star Sceptre, which functions as a key to open the door.[1]
In recent times, Captain Britain reached the Gates of Otherworld for the first time, against the advice of spectral beings of the Netherworld who haunt the borders of the nearby land and could sense his imminent death. As foretold, once the Gates of Otherworld were open, Captain Britain unleashed the White Rider and perished in battle. His lifeless body was then carried by the warriors of Mandrac through the Gates towards Avalon. At Merlyn’s behest, the Black Knight and his elf companions followed Mandrac to retrieve Brian's body.[2]
