Synopsis for "Don't Touch That Dial!"

Chamber is upset over his broken TV and encounters Gateway, who telepathically advises him to visit Husk, who is scared of the Legacy Virus.

Meanwhile, Jubilee, M, Skin, and Synch are on a field trip in New York City and are on their way to meet Emma Frost when M suddenly becomes catatonic, Also an old acquaintance from L.A. recognizes Skin, who had been presumed dead. Skin conceals his identity and threatens the man, insisting on being known as Angelo Espinosa.

Back at the School, Banshee tries to communicate with Penance while worrying about Moira MacTaggart, who is revealed to be the first human with the Legacy Virus.

As the kids head to meet Emma, their car is hit, and they find bodies impaled on a wall. When they reach Emma's offices, they are attacked by the mutant Hemingway, a powerful member of Gene Nation. Jubilee confronts Hemingway but is thrown out of a window, with Skin rescuing her. Hemingway boasts about Gene Nation's power, including Leech, who can neutralize mutant abilities. However, Synch fights off Hemmingway. Skin finds young Artie Maddicks, revealing that Emma intended to retrieve Artie and Leech, but Gene Nation got there quicker.

Trivia

  • Skin's longer nose and overall change in appearance starting with this issue was an intentional redesign on Chris Bachalo's part after the Age of Apocalypse event, which was released between issues 4 and 5. During the event, Bachalo had to design an alternate version of Angelo and liked the new appearance so much, he decided to implement it on the main book as well.[1]
