Synopsis

Genesis War was the civil war kicked off by Genesis on Arakko in the wake of an Orchis attack on the Hellfire Gala that destroyed Krakoa and led many mutants forcibly sent to Arakko.[1][2]

History[]

When Ironfire arrived to warn the Great Ring of Arakko about the approaching Amenthi threat, Genesis interrupted and confronted them. Her Annihilation staff influenced Sobunar, which also affected the ecosystem of his sea. She challenged Kobak for the Seat of Victory. She managed to get Ivory Spire from Ironfire when he attacked claiming to challenge her first. Meanwhile Sobunar challenged Storm. But at the urging of Lodus Logos, Lactuca teleported him, Storm, Kobak, Xilo and Ironfire away from the Great Ring. This was an insult in the eyes of the Arakki and the split of Great Ring was the starting moment of the Genesis War. Genesis planned to conquer both Arakko and the Earth after making every mutant on Arakko loyal to her and Annihilation.[3][1]

After taking command over the remaining members of the Great Ring, Genesis used her mutant powers to create ten towers that functioned as both her castle and defense. Lactuca was at Genesis’ side but not on it. Genesis invited the Arakki to wage war. Mercenaries of Arakko heard about the conflict. They chose sides on the principles of Genesis and Storm. Meanwhile Craig Marshall accepted the offer of being posted at Port Prometheus, due to tensions of the conflict. Fearful and hungry mutants from Earth exiled by Orchis remained here. Port Prometheus also served as the base from where Storm worked with Brotherhood of Arakko and their allies along with the Morrowlands. Storm’s side faced scarcity in communal resources as they were expected to be shared with refugees. Therefore these refugees faced discrimination from arakki. With war running high across the planet Arakko, other neutral parties like Locus Vile had claimed the Spire Vile; and Isca claimed Olympus and Tharsis Montes, where she retired. Genesis repeatedly sent her horde against Storm’s to conquer remaining land and they were repeatedly defeated. During the Battle of the Fallen, Nova commanded the Air Corps while Kobak commanded the ground. Genesis Horde tried to conquer the Valley of the Fallen to get land route to Morrowlands as Sobunar hadn’t offered the Sea to the war. Orrdon was killed by Isca when he flew over her territory, while others fled when Storm blocked their way by destroying statues of Apocalypse and Genesis; instead of killing them.[1][2]

The Fisher King merged with That-Which-Was-Xilo, and with his help provided the Brotherhood a map to form a strategy. Although the Argyre Planitia was lost, their western front were still standing, the eastern territories were safe from Genesis' forces due to being blocked by Isca and the Locus Vile, and the Autumn Continent was mostly dead following Vulcan's destruction. Unable to pass through land, Genesis and her army were forced to go to the shore of Sobunar's Ocean, and against his wish had Satis Exotica bleed in the water, transforming one of the fishes into a colossal monstrosity under their command. The monster approached Port Prometheus, followed behind by Genesis' fleet, only to be killed by Storm using her powers to pierce its head. They realized too late that this was exactly what Genesis expected as from the creature's blood an Okkaran Gateway arose, through which an armada of Summoners, Daemons and the Ninety-Nine Champions passed from Amenth, led by the First Horsemen.[4]

Soon the armada began completely ravaging Port Prometheus, killing any innocent person they came across. Storm fought through the daemons, while Sunspot lamented to the Fisher King over his failure to prevent the war and Orchis' attack. Syzya of the Smoke managed to get hold of the trigger that would unleash Uranos the Undying on their enemies for one hour, and went to deliver it to Storm. While the Brotherhood worked to save as many civilians as they could, Famine used his power to raise the sea and flood the entirety of the city, washing everything away. Storm immediately arrived and took him down with a single lightning, before turning her attention to War. War proclaimed her side to be the only one worthy of leading Arakko, but Storm proved her superior strength by depriving the warmonger of air. Death then approached Storm as he still felt life within his fallen siblings, and perplexed by her refusal to take a single life challenged her to a last dance. Pestilence interrupted this moment to make a sneak attack on Storm by throwing one of her poisonous arrows. Thankfully, Nova got in the way to save Storm, letting the arrow to strike him instead, and furious over his sister's lack of honor Death killed her himself. In doing so, Death betrayed his mother to join the Brotherhood's side, and Syzya arrived soon after to hand Storm the cube-shaped trigger. Meanwhile, Apocalypse, accompanied by the daemon Orc, arrived through another Okkaran Gateway to join the war.[5]

Apocalypse reunited with Sunfire, merged with Redroot the Forest, and with him and Orc by his side proceeded to free Vulcan after Storm had imprisoned him, but put a spell on him in order to keep him under check. In the ruins of Port Prometheus, upon taking the trigger in her hands, Uranos telepathically let Storm know at what exact price it would come if she were to unleash him. Ironfire urged Storm to do it as it was the only way left to win the war. Deeming the genocide Uranos would cause not worth it, Storm made the decision to destroy the trigger, angering Ironfire as in his eyes the entirety of Genesis' army had no hope since they had completely fallen under her sway and decided to leave the Brotherhood. Storm and Sunspot went to check on Nova who barely clung to life, but were then visited by Apocalypse. He explained to them that he now stood against Genesis' ideals which only served to segregate, and decided to help the Brotherhood turn the tide of the war. While that was happening, Ironfire confronted a mind controlled White Sword and his Ninety-Nine Champions, determined to grant his former comrades mercy. Apocalypse brought Storm to a ritualistic circle in the Autumn Continent where Sunfire, Vulcan and Orc were already gathered, each representing earth, fire and air respectively, with he himself representing water. The ritual would serve to grant them the means to defeat Genesis, and as the four of them stood around the circle, Storm stood in the middle of it since she represented life and magic. With the destruction she brought, Genesis believed she had already won, and started planning attacking Earth next, but was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Kaorak, the Autumn Continent transformed into a living humanoid land by Apocalypse's ritual.[6]

In retaliation, Genesis raised Arakko to fight Kaorak, while the rebels watched on and Apocalypse, Sunfire, Vulcan and Orc stayed on the circle to maintain their living island. As the two islands fought, Storm confronted Genesis who mocked her for being an enabler for the weak. At first she tried to restrain her with her plants, which Storm managed to destroy, and when Genesis attempted to use the Annihilation Staff to make her miss her target she outsmarted the staff by only missing it and striking its wielder instead. This caused Genesis to loose her grip on Purity which allowed it to go back to its rightful owner White Sword, just after Ironfire killed all of the Ninety-Nine Champions. Ironfire tried to reason with White Sword one last time, but seeing that his comrade was fully under Genesis' sway he went to fight him. The Great Ring were on a ship in the ocean and at the sight of the Brotherhood's leaders on the shore Ora Serrata decided to kill them immediately with her disintegrating sight as she had enough of them. She planned to start with Sunspot, but this backfired as during the process he burned just as bright as the Sun, blinding her. In the Morrowlands, White Sword tried to turn Ironfire to Genesis' side to no avail, and despite holding Purity in his hands Ironfire was able to steal his weapon and use it cut him in half. As the two sides fought, Ora Serrata tried to reassert her law, leading to the Fisher King transferring Xilo over to her, sacrificing himself in the process.

Kaorak and Arakko also continued their battle, prompting Storm to make Genesis see that her crusade will inevitably end the world. Genesis didn't budge, responding by deeming Storm too weak to be the avatar of life as life was about endless war. She then trapped Storm inside an energy field before manipulating the fungi inside her body to slowly kill her from within. Genesis continued her speech about how Okkara fell due to its people's weakness and Annihilation served to cull the weak as survival only lied in strength. Storm crawled towards her and made contact with the Staff, allowing Annihilation to speak to her privately in her mind. It explained to her its history, how it was drawn to Genesis, but it had now deemed her of no longer use and offered Storm to grant her its power instead. Storm resisted the temptation and rejected it, grabbing hold of the Staff and using her lightning powers to completely destroy it. This marked Genesis' defeat as she was left scarred and without the power of Annihilation she was forced to retreat. Lactuca announced that Genesis had lost and the war was now over. Lycaon refused to surrender, and attempted to keep fighting, leading to a Xilo-possessed Ora Serrata, now named Xilora, to kill him as Storm had rightfully won this war build on false law and history. Sunspot, Syzya, Weaponless Zsen and Khora mourn the Fisher King, who willingly sacrificed himself to not only prove his strength but for the sake of his loved ones as well. Back to the Morrowlands, Ironfire allowed White Sword to fully heal himself and with Annihilation's influence gone the two comrades embraced each other. Kaorak and Arakko do so as well, watched on by Apocalypse who explained that to truly live was to thrive and with the union of the two opposites the spirit of Okkara was reborn. In the aftermath of the war, peace soon befell on Arakko, with Sobunar going into exile, Orc claiming a piece of land for his fellow Daemons, and the other territories forming their own meaning of peace. The peace wouldn't last for long as the Arakkii mutants had to prepare for the threat posed by Orchis. Genesis and her two remaining children, Famine and War, made their way to Phobos where they managed to kill all of the Orchis operatives there and take over their base, planning their revenge against everyone who had wronged them.[7]
