Personal History

Gerard "Jerry" Calabrese has been President of the Marvel Comics Group, then a division of Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. from April 14, 1995 to the mid 1996 and President of the Marvel Comics division of Marvel Enterprises, Inc. from October 01, 1998 to November 1998.[1]

Calabrese first succeded Terry Stewart as Marvel Comics Group's President on April 21, 1995, later being responsible of launching the Heroes Reborn initiative in 1996. He contacted Shirrel Rhoades in June 1996 to be the acting Publisher of Marvel Comics, replacing Stan Lee. He was later fired by Marvel Entertainment Group's CEO Bill Bevins in mid-1996, replaced by interim President Scott C. Marden.[1]

After Toy Biz, Inc. co-owners Isaac Perlmutter and Avi Arad took control of Marvel Entertainment Group from the federal trustee John J. Gibbons by merging the company with Toy Biz and thus creating Marvel Enterprises, Inc. on October 01, 1998, the new corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Ahearn, hired Calabrese as the new President of the Publishing Division, with orders to "make house-clean". Tired of Perlmutter's mean behavior, Calabrese resigned from his position in November 1998, and his duties passed on the new President and C.E.O. Eric Ellenbogen, who had taken Ahearn's place on November 25, 1998.[1]
