Synopsis for "A Kind Face"
Ghost Rider confronts a group of human traffickers in New York's Chinatown, allowing one of the trafficked girls to escape in the chaos. Unfortunately, the police interrupt Ghost Rider before he can use his Penance Stare on the traffickers. He chides them that they should ask questions first, shoot later, instead of the opposite.
Frustrated, Ghost Rider cedes control of his body back to Dan Ketch, for once looking forward to rest in the Void. By coincidence, Dan gets on the same bus as escaped slave. The girl, Lian, is severely malnourished, and struggles to find food or shelter. She mournfully remembers how she and her brother were tricked by the traffickers, and how her brother died on the voyage to New York.
Dan buys groceries with what little money he has left. Having noticed Lian eying the apples, he gives the girl one. Unfortunately, at that moment, Lian's traffickers catch up to her. Dan transforms into Ghost Rider and fights them off, but Lian is mortally wounded in the fight. Ghost Rider tells her that everything will be alright, knowing it is a lie. While Lian does not understand his words, she recognizes him to be kind. Lian dies in the Ghost Rider's arms before reaching a hospital.
Later, Blackheart finds Lian's corpse in the city morgue. Promising her revenge, he resurrects her as Pao Fu, the Goddess of Vengeance.
