Quote1 You didn't "lose" me because of the Spirit of Vengeance. I broke up with you because you were never honest with me. If you'd just told me about what you were going through... if you'd just talked to me and not hidden everything... then maybe... maybe we would still be "we." But you didn't. And I wasn't going to stay in a relationship with someone who can't be honest with me. Despite all that... I know that your heart was in the right place. I know you were trying to protect me. Even if I didn't need it. So if there's a way for you to stop what's happening, I know that you'll do the right thing. Quote2

Synopsis for "The King of Hell: Part 3"

In the North American Great Plains, 1654 C.E., Chief Hellhawk encounters an armoured centaurian like being known as a Necrosis for recognizing his work on the dead tribes it has left behind. The Necrosis anticipated the Chief’s pursuit, catching the attention of the Rider while slashing him with his sword. The wound slowly melts the Chief as every corrupted thing inside him manifests and reduces him to sludge. The Necrosis leaves, remarking the message it has to Mephisto from Belasco to keep the Spirits of Vengeance away from Limbo.

Back in the present, in the East River, Caretaker Sara saves Danny Ketch from drowning. She tells him that a war is coming and that Danny is the only one who can prevent it from occurring. Meanwhile, Johnny returns to the site of where the demons originally came out from, thinking how to round up the rest while infuriated for both Danny’s stubbornness and failing to accomplish his task. He doesn’t have a clue where to begin but knows someone who does.

Danny returns to his bar, announcing every customer to leave. Emma still thinks Danny should attend business school while he and Sara talk about what’s happening. She explains that Blaze is manipulated by evil forces working to seize his dominion over Hell. Danny barges in, dismissing Sara’s next words, telling her that Johnny’s mission is not his problem. She insists him to help his brother only to be told that he’s retired while furthering downing his drink. She then tells him that Hell has infected Johnny’s way of thinking and acting, saying he’s gone insane. Those words reminded Danny of what his supposed mother told him, leaving abruptly as result. Meanwhile in Hell, Lilith leads hordes of demons to temporarily leave their domain in an attempt to thwart the Ghost Rider and to restore Hell to its former glory.

Danny meets up with Stacy in Long Island, surprising her, wanting to talk to her. Needing to find a solution, Stacy asserts their conversation about Humbolt’s death, the inconclusive number of other deaths, and the other Ghost Rider involved. Danny assures her that it wasn’t him who started the problem, but Johnny. He went on to explain what’s been happening since Blaze’s appearance, and lets her know that if he becomes Ghost Rider again, he’s unsure if he can manage it again believing it’s the reason why they aren’t together. However, Stacy clarifies that it wasn’t the Spirit of Vengeance that broke their relationship, but his dishonesty and not being transparent. Nevertheless, she knows that he will do the right thing. Having reassurance and realizing the matter that’s at stake, Danny sets off with Caretaker Sara to end the troubles.

Outside Enoch, Utah, two demon possessed guys, playing around, are travelling to Vegas. Johnny catches up to them, condemning both, and knows why they’re heading to Vegas: the Hotel Inferno.

Solicit Synopsis

After the explosive events of last issue, the Brothers Ghost Rider will never be the same!

There’s only one being they can turn to now: Mephisto?!?

Notes

  • In this issue, Danny Ketch states that Johnny Blaze is his "half brother." This is something that was implied in Ghost Rider (Vol. 3) #-1 and stated on the character lists that were printed on the inside front covers of some subsequent issues (like Ghost Rider (Vol. 3) #87). However, a number of comics published in the more than twenty years since Ghost Rider (Vol. 3) ended have chosen to ignore that fact and instead present Johnny as living with his two siblings and both their parents until their mother left after her husband died and took Johnny's two younger siblings with her (like in a flashback in Ghost Rider (Vol. 6) #5).
