Conan the Barbarian #14A Sword Called Stormbringer!
Conan the Barbarian #14A Sword Called Stormbringer!
After the events of the last issue, Conan travelled far and now rides through Koth, the southern neighbour of Zamora.
A group of hooded killers stalk a fleeing woman on horseback, but Conan is nearby and comes to her rescue. Just the touch of one of the hooded men's sword fells the barbarian, but before they can finish him off, a flock of giant eagles appears to chase the men away. The girl turns out to be Zephra, daughter of the wizard Zukala, who Conan met some years before. Zephra was searching him bidding his help. The wizard himself, without the power of his mask, has become a frail old man, and seeks Conan's help in defeating the evil of Kulan Gath and his henchwoman Xiombarg. He asks Conan to go to the city of Yagala, which has been transported thousands of years ago from another dimension, as a jail for the dead-but-not-so-dead body of an evil sorceress and empress. Zukala enchants Conan's sword and Zephra guides the barbarian to the city. The wizard then truns his attention to the chaos godess Xiombarg, who is preparing to send her captain, Gaynor, after Conan. Xiombarg senses Zukala's spying and breaks the connection. Some time later, Conan and Zephra encounter a traveler from Yagala's dimension - Elric of Melnibone. Conan assumes the pale rider is his enemy and attacks. Conan is unable to best the magically enhanced and armored Elric, and both parties stop fighting when they realize neither is working for Xiombarg. Suddenly, the undead forces of Gaynor attack. A vicious fight begins, only ending when Zephra uses her magic to call forth a flood of rain that washes the hellish flesh of the damned away, though Gaynor gets away. As Elric is also heading for Yagala, the three decide to travel together.Appearing in "The Green Empress of Melniboné"

Conan the Barbarian #15The Green Empress of Melniboné
Conan and his companions Zephra and Elric approach the Sighing Lake where the other-dimensional city of Yagala stands. They are attacked by demons, but easily defeat them and make their way to the shores. They are forced to craft a boat from the ribcage of a giant skeletal creature while Sephra's father, Zukala, watches them through a magical portal. The three reach Kulan-Gath, who is attempting to summon the dread Terhali of Melnibone in order to gain supreme power. He believes the others were sent by Thoth-Amon, but before anything can be done, Prince Gaynor and his armies appear and all hell breaks loose. Kulan-Gath manages to complete his spell and Terhali rises from the dead. Elric defeats, but is unable to kill, Gaynor, and Kulan-Goth annoys Terhali to the point where she kills him. Elric and Conan attack the witch-queen but she knocks them both unconscious. Zephra becomes possessed by Arkyn, a Lord of Law and enemy of Terhali. The now powerful Zephra destroys Terhali, but dies in the process. Elric returns to his dimension as the city of Yagala crumbles and is swallowed by the Sighing Lake. Conan gives Zukala his daughter's body and rides away.

Conan the Barbarian #12
(originally printed as The Dweller in the Dark)
Conan travels - against his last thought in the previous issue about Argos - east and arrives at the Corinthian city of Zahmahn. As he attempts to drink from a protected spring, he is surprised by Zahmahn guards. The Cimmerian kills the captain of the guards and is knocked out by another guard in fear that the queen may question them as to who killed her favorite paramour. The guards manage to get the best of the weary barbarian and drag him before their queen, the power-mad Fatima. Impressed by the barbarian, she takes him as her consort for several weeks until Conan makes the mistake of being nice to the slave girl Yaila. The insanely jealous, or maybe just insane, Fatima sentences the two to death in the sewers at the pleasure of the Dweller in the Darkness. Conan is chained next to Yaila upon an ancient wall as both hear something coming from down inside the darkened caverns. Conan manages to break free of the chains that hold him as a huge pink tentacle reaches around a corner. The Cimmerian and the girl travel down the sewer tunnel just as the Dweller, a giant octopus-like creature, slithers into view in a vast chamber beyond. The wretched creature, once human but now transformed into the thing, lashes out at Conan and Yaila. Conan attempts to rescue the girl who snatches up one of the veil creature's tentacles. Even the monster is spongy and hard to cut, Conan manages to slice one of the creature's eyes, blinding it. The monster, now in pain, begins lashing out as the Cimmerian and the girl attempt to find an escape.
Conan, carrying Yaila, scrambles up a tunnel in the ceiling. Breaking through a manhole, they find themselves in the throne room in the middle of Fatima and a group of guards. Fed up with the situation, Conan grabs the queen and threatens to throw her down the hole to the monster. Fatima promises Conan anything he wants if he lets her go. Not believing her for a second, Conan tosses her to the Dweller and listens, satisfied with the screams. Conan turns to face the guards, but is surprised when they cheer; they were fed up with Fatima themselves. Conan takes the opportunity to attempt to make himself king, but when he discovers that Zahmahn only allows queens, names Yaila as the next ruler and, having enough of queens, leaves town.
