Synopsis for "The Phony Rubies"
Milly Borden reporter for the Herald visits a gala party and spots her old boyfriend who introduces her to the hostess of the party Alicia Van Sweldt. Her nervous mannerisms has the pair ask what's wrong and after departing into the library she confesses that the jewels she is wearing are fake and that the real ones were stolen earlier that day and that the one responsible would contact her that night in order to retrieve them for $100,000. Soon after her husband's twin brother confronts the three and asks for his payment of he will be forced to flee and sell off the jewels by having to get them cut. Milly's ex pretends to drop his cigarettes and yanks the rug Marlin is standing on as they wrestle the gun away from him and retrieve the real jewels. The party guests none the wiser for what transpired and a story Molly must think about publishing if she doesn't wish to embarrass such fine people as the Van Sweldts.
