Druids from Excalibur Vol 4 4 006

Do not assume those who live in the earth trust those who live upon it. But even less do we trust wizards and magi who wrest power from the gods and stories as though they are theirs to command. We serve the earth.

Druid Magic is a type of magic used by druids. While it was explicitly called "magic",[1][2][3][4] druids are either called just "druids"[5][6][7][8][2][9] or "druid priests/priestesses",[5][6][10][11] but not "sorcerers" or "mages". Doctor Druid, who uses Druid Magic, once called them Celtic wizards,[12] but on other occasions claimed that he was not a sorcerer,[13][14] and several other druids also expressed their disdain for "wizards and magi".[15]

Controlling the earth

Its source of power is unclear. While some druids worshipped Celtic gods,[5][6] they apparently weren't the source of Druid Magic, because at least two Celtic gods, The Dagda and Nuada, practiced Druid Magic themselves. The Dagda learned druid spells and enchantments from druids themselves, while Nuada's son, Gwynn, was raised by druids.[3][4][11] Doctor Druid described Druid Magic as occult power of the ancient Britons,[16] a mystic craft of Celtic wizards[12] and as earth-based magic.[1][2] Other druids were able to shape the ground into walls and stop falling stones and said they "serve the earth". These druids sometimes also called it "The Earth",[17][15] that could indicate either the planet Earth or maybe the Elder Goddess the Mother Earth Gaea.

Powers most often used by Doctor Druid, like telepathy, hypnosis and astral projection, are part of the Egocentric Magic that is powered by mages themselves, while control over earth and illusions are among the powers gained from the Ecocentric Magic that is powered by ambient magical energies in the surrounding environment. So it can be assumed that Druid Magic is a combination of Ego- and Ecocentric magic.

History

500,000 BC

During 500,000 BC in Lemuria existed Black Druids, Red Druids and Yellow Druids. It is unknown if they had any connection to more recent druids.

Thousands of Years Ago

Druids of Rockhenge were a a sect of Druids that resided in Ireland thousands of years ago.[18]

1st century AD

When the Roman Empire invaded the British Isles in the 1st century AD, the druids were a powerful unifying factor, to defeat the Celts, Romans killed almost all druids. Moiragh and Taliesin cast a spell to summon Morrigan, Taranis and Cernunnos and gave the Oak Staff of the Druids to them, begging to give it to descendant of two druids who would be born in the future and would avenge them.[9]

6th century AD

Druids and Lady Evaine

In 6th century AD Lady Evaine was a druid priestesses, who worshipped Celtic god Gwynn. As her husband ordered to kill druids, she kept the truth about herself hidden, but she brought her son Percy to the forests to meet with other druids. Together they prayed and summoned Gwynn, who then predicted Percy's future and foresaw him becoming the first Black Knight.[5]

10th century AD

In the year 987 AD, seven members of a druid cult made a deal with the demon Mephisto: in exchange for immortality, they agreed to funnel souls into Mephisto's Realm. Over the subsequent millennium, the mages acquired great wealth and became the board members a London-based corporation named Mys-Tech. To pay their debt to Mephisto, the Mys-Tech board plotted to take over the world and kill vast numbers of innocents.[19]

12th century AD

In 12th century AD High Druid Amergin summoned the Avengers from the modern times to defend Avalon from the Fomorians.[1]

Druids and Rictor

Anthony Druid, descendant of High Druid Amergin, learned and used Druid Magic to become superhero "Doctor Druid".[12][16][1] His son, Sebastian Druid later demonstrated similar powers and even took "Druid" as his codename, but later learned that his powers weren't actually magic.[20]

Morrigan, Taranis and Cernunnos fulfilled the deal they made with druids in 1st century AD and gave the Oak Staff of the Druids to Kyllian Boddicker.[9]

Coven Solar Blackwood claimed to be Druids, but their magic was powered by the Otherworld and/or Morgan Le Fay. Their leader, High Priestess Marianna Stern eventually betrayed and killed them and joined the Coven Akkaba instead.[21]

A group of druids was living underground near the Braddock Lighthouse, England. They helped the Excalibur to fight against the Coven Akkaba.[17] They had later also assisted Julio Richter. They were impressed by his power to control the earth, and even thought his was inborn due to him being a mutant, instead of being based on knowledge like theirs, these druids still recognized him as one of them and said that he was a druid, just like them and should stay with them.[15]
