Elder Races
The Elder races were humanoid races who ruled Earth before the rise of mankind,[1] and may refer to any of the races which ruled or colonized Earth before the rise humanity.[2]
The Elder Races include the Elderspawn[3] (such as Set's Serpent-Men[4][5] or Chthon's N'Garai, Ape Men, Man-Bats of Ur-Xanarrh, Harpies, Goblins, and Nightgaunts),[6] and other races of demons,[2][6] the Bird Men of Akah Ma'at,[3] the extraterrestrial star-headed Old Ones,[7] the Elder Race proper (including Tuzun Thune, Thulsa Doom, Demonolater, Kharon, Thuron,[2] and Khalis-Wu),[8] but also Psyklop's race[2] (the Psyklop),[9][10][11] a species of raven-like telepathic Bird-Men,[12] the Deviants, the Gibborim, the Shining Ones (including the being who would become the Architect), the Silent Ones, the Axi-Tun Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the People of the Dust, Starseed's society, Dark Rider's Wizard Race, the races of Grogg, Raptor the Renegade, and many others.[2]
Though the Elder Race proper is only one of many elder races,[2] elder races (or maybe only the Elderspawn) have been collectively referred to as "the Elder Race" as well.[13]
History
Early years
Long eons ago, before the Age of Man, when the elder races roamed the world, Oranah was feared before all but the mightiest god-things.[14]
Pre-Cataclysmic Age
By the Age of Kull, circa 18,500 BC, humans considered the elder races as "masters of dark deceit and sorcerous illusions".[12]
At some point before the Hyborian Age of Conan, circa 10,000 BC, an elder race inhabited Abombi, but abandoned the city at its height.[15]
Legacy
The Hellbent were the result of the intermingling of the remains of elder races with early man during pre-history,[16] when those remnants still shared Earth with early man. They were shunned both by their human and inhuman sires.[17]
Notes
- The Ancients, in fact water-breathing Lemurians[18] were stated to be a "telepathic elder race".[19] Contrary to other elder races, they don't predate humanity, but are only a group from the Lemurian branch of the Atlanteans (Homo mermanus).
