Kirbons
Kirbons are primordial elemental particles which give matter its size, mass and density,[1] making up the basic building blocks of all matter alongside leptons, electrons, and protons.[2] Kirbons can be found in cosmic radiation alongside gamma and X-rays,[1] which led the Leader's experiments to conclude these particles and rays may originate from the same source.[3] Doctor Doom identified this source as the "Mystery" or "Above-place", which can be found beyond the Far Shore in the White Hot Room.[4]
Hank Pym invented Pym Particles by refining the size-defining properties of kirbons for use in the human body. Nadia Van Dyne later also studied these particles in the Red Room.[1] By condensing kirbons into solid form, the Krakoan S.W.O.R.D. team were able to create the "mutant metal" Mysterium, which is highly conductive of both electricity and magic.[5]
Notes
- Kirbons appear to be named for Jack Kirby, who helped create much of the Marvel universe.
- They may also be inspired by the "Kirby Dots" he famously used to depict various forms of cosmic radiation and energy.
- While Doom implies that the White Hot Room is specifically the same place as the Mystery or Above-place,[4] writer Al Ewing has clarified that the White Hot Room is just one part[6] of the Mystery and Above-place, which are synonymous.[7] This suggests that other parts of the Mystery, such as the Beyond, Land of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be, or House of Ideas may also be sources of kirbons, but this has yet to be seen.
