Second Cosmos

Celestials and Beyonders from Defenders Beyond Vol 1 2 001

The Celestials in the Second Cosmos, the first Multiverse

"Second Cosmos" is the denomination given to the second iteration of existence and first Multiverse. It is a defunct Multiverse that no longer exists. It was created as a consequence of the Celestial War between the Celestials and Aspirants of the First Firmament, personification of the first universe to ever exist.[1][2]

The Celestials wanted change, mortality, and evolution, as the First Firmament was stagnant and eternal. This included the cosmos itself; thus, the Second Cosmos "aged" and had a lifespan.[1] With new realities came infinite possibilities, where each what if could become its own what is. Believing that leaving this unchecked would result in instability, the Celestials tasked their servitors, the Omegas, to help maintain it.[3]

The Second Cosmos ended prematurely, lasting only for a few millenia, because everything was new, including the concept of all-death, and its personification was eager to try it. The remnants of the Second Cosmos would form an unobservable space outside the next Multiverses. While the Celestials passed on to the next Multiverses, the Omegas continued their work from the Outside, thus becoming known as the Beyonders.[3]

As part of the renewal cycle, after the Second Cosmos ended, it was replaced by the Third Cosmos.[1][2][3]

Notes

  • The "Omega Force" originates in the Second Cosmos.[2] It is not elaborated what this is, but given the name, it is likely related to the Omegas.
