Skrull Language
Various alien languages in comics may be represented by lettering typefaces where normal text is substituted with fictional letters. When the substitution is consistent, it is possible to decipher such alien text. Marvel's letterers began using such ciphered alien language in 2002 with Doop's dialogue in X-Force. Several more styles were introduced in 2008's Secret Invasion event to represent the speech of the Skrulls. One of the most prominent Skrull languages seen in this event would be reused over the years in many other contexts, including to represent languages of other alien cultures and occasionally arcane incantations.
This cipher is complicated by the reuse of many of its characters to represent different upper and lowercase English letters as well as punctuation and special characters. Much of the key could be derived from a page sequence in Secret Invasion Vol 1 5 in which Abigail Brand converses with Skrulls in their language and captions provide the translations for the reader. Context makes it possible to decipher further passages and fill out the key, though there are still some letters that have yet to be seen.
