The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States of America.
History
The Sipapu, a portal that connects Giizhigong home of the Manidoog the Native American gods to Earth, is located in the Grand Canyon.[1]
Many years ago, a Russian agent named Boris Monguski staged an elaborate hoax in which he assumed the identity of an alien conqueror named Mongu. As Mongu, Monguski openly challenged Earth's mightiest mortal to fight him in mortal combat. The gamma-irradiated super-being known as the Hulk accepted the challenge and met with Mongu on a peak in the Grand Canyon. The Hulk exposed Monguski's ploy and apprehended him and his soldiers.[2]
Years later, a 727 aircraft flew over the Grand Canyon, transporting cycle daredevil Johnny Blaze, who was planning to jump the Copperhead Canyon.[3]
Years later, the Grand Canyon was the sight of a massive three-way battle between the mutated dinosaur Godzilla, a giant man-ape named Yetrigar, and the robotic Red Ronin. A S.H.I.E.L.D. tactical team led by Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan intercepted the monsters, but Yetrigar used his massive strength to bring the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier down to the ground. Red Ronin tried to keep the monsters from destroying one another, but was forced to turn his weaponry against Yetrigar, burying him beneath a mountain of boulders and debris.[4]
Years later, Bobbi Morse, the Avenger known as Mockingbird wanted to go to the Grand Canyon to investigate the Slade family. She believed that archaeologist Hamilton Slade had knowledge that might implicate her in the murder of his 19th century ancestor Carter Slade. To cover up her true motivations, she told her teammates in the West Coast Avengers that their sojourn was intended solely as a sight-seeing expedition. As a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Morse knew of the region where the Yetrigar had been buried. While exploring the canyon, she surreptitiously tossed an explosive into the canyon, awakening the slumbering creature. While her fellow Avengers fought with the Yetrigar, Mockingbird tracked down Hamilton Slade.[5]Residents
