The Great Army was the name of the army of Valusia.[1]
The Valusian army included the Red Slayers, mercenaries, the fabled Black Legions,[2] the Black Squadrons (possibly another name for the Black Legion),[3] coastal defenses,[8] and engineers.[9]
History
King Borna's rule[]
After fighting exceptionally well as a gladiator, Kull of Atlantis joined the Valusian army, before ascending as the commander of the Black Legion.[2]
Siege of Zaphaar[]
During the siege of Zaphaar, initiated as Phaedria rebelled against Borna, General Kull of the Black Legion came at odds with Clystra, general of the engineers, due to the latter whipping the soldiers building the siegeworks, and humiliated.
Months later, the siege kept on, and pague eventually struck the camp. To avoid contagion, the Valusians burned their dead instead of burrying them. Clystra and some engineers tried to have Kull killed by luring him to inspect a pitch-soaked mine. Kull escaped, poisoned him to gave him the semblance of a dead, leading him to believe he was going to be buried alive. Due to the plague, he was in fact burned alive, as intended by Kull.[9]
Ranking[]
The Valusian forces, including the Black Legion,[10][9] the Red Slayers,[10] the engineers,[9] and another unidentified corps, seemingly used "general" and "commander" indistinctively.[10]Paraphernalia

Weapons
Alternatively or depending on the corps, the Valusian soldiers used spears and swords.[2]
The Valusians were given crossbows by H'nar of Demascar.[11]Transportation
