History

Greta Montimore was part of a clan who practiced apotropaic magic and despised using magic for anything else. When she was eight, she died, but her grandmother cast a spell to revive her. From then on, she grew a fascination over the various uses of magic, and her grandmother taught her everything she could, against her family's wishes.[2]

After her grandmother died, Greta became a student at Doom Academy alongside her brother Frederick, but his recurring attempts to stop her from expanding her magical horizons only made her more determined to embrace a new lifestyle, which drew a rift between them. Therefore, when a group of vampires dared Greta to steal one of Doctor Doom's books, she accepted the challenge. As she summoned a book called "Arcana Latveriana", her brother intervened and took the book from her hands. Knowing the dangers of the book, Greta pushed him away with a spell to protect him, but ended up being absorbed into the book herself. After this accident, her brother left the school.[1]

Years would pass, and the story of these siblings would become some sort of ghost story at the school. When some of the students of Strange Academy transferred to Doom Academy, Zoe Laveau began hearing voices and was told that she might be hearing Greta. Despite remaining skeptic, one night, Zoe followed the voice, which led her to a small attic, where she found the "Arcana Latveriana", being immediately taken into its pages.[3] When she regained consciousness inside the book's magic world, she was greeted by Greta, who had remained there all those years.[4]

Greta and Zoe grew close and even appeared to be attracted to one another, but before they could act on it, Zoe was rescued by her friends and freed from the "Arcana Latveriana".[5] Still, unwilling to abandon her newfound friend, Zoe returned and successfully rescued Greta. However, in doing so, they accidentally released the book's beasts into the real world as well.[1]
