History

Groot left home on Planet X because he disliked his species' treatment of mammals. While in Kree space, he encounters Rocket Raccon in a prison and forms a strong bond with him. Both joined the Guardians of the Galaxy in a confrontation against Ronan.[1]
Visiting New York[]
Whilst visiting New York, Earth, Groot had an inexplicable fued with a group of purple insectoid Moles, rewarding people for fending them off.[3]
At some point later, Groot suffered serious injuries by sacrificing himself to save the Guardians' lives in a confrontation with Ronan, thus dying and leaving only one branch.[1][2]
The Build Stone[]
Groot is reborn as Baby Groot, growing from the branch of the original Groot.[2] Groot, along with Rocket, ended up on a forest planet thanks to the stability of a portal that Milano went through.[4] On that planet, Groot ended up interacting with a plant, which makes him grow and become extremely aggressive. He would soon be calmed down by Mantis.[5] Groot was at the side of the Guardians of the Galaxy during the battle against Thanos to stop him from destroying Earth with the BLT weapon.[6]
Kang's Invasion[]
Fight on Xandar[]

Baby Groot
Groot, along with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy, arriving on Xandar to help the Nova Corps fight against Kang the Conqueror. Rocket and Groot stayed at Milano to take care of Kang's air forces, and in that, Rocket discovered Kang's technology that could make Groot age and rejuvenate instantly. After a fight against Eson, the Guardians saw Xandar being taken away by Kang. Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy arrived on Earth. Thinking they had responded to a distress call, Nick Fury told them they were late. However, the Guardians informed him that they had come because of Kang's Invasion. Before the Guardians can warn Fury, Kang arrives and destroys the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, before taking Manhattan into Chronopolis.
Exploring Chronopolis[]
After the Guardians were taken to Chronopolis, Captain America led Star-Lord, Gamora and Groot to follow the knights through a portal. There, they ended up in Medieval England, where they encountered the Black Knight. The four agreed to help him retake his castle. However, Percy led them to the Enchantress. Doctor Strange, followed by Captain Avalon, came and revealed that Percy was actually Nathan Garrett, the villainous Black Knight. Groot and Gamora were then captured. While the others defeated the Enchantress and stormed the castle, they fought their way to the dungeon, where they defeated Garrett and Groot in his small form freed him and Gamora.

The Quest for the Nexu Fragments[]
After Kang destroyed the Nexus of All Realities, Cosmo the Space Dog sends a message to Avengers Mansion, but the signal is too weak, so the Guardians head off to find something to help. This takes them to the Old West. While in a saloon, Star-Lord gets into a fight, and Gamora saves him. Star-Lord and Groot then go off while the rest of the Guardians are attacked by M.O.D.O.K., who has become the local sheriff and has the piece of tech they need. They team up with Old West Captain America and chase M.O.D.O.K. off. However, during the battle, Groot was captured by Captain Corbett, and in trying to free him, Rocket was also caught. Star-Lord helps Kid Colt and Arizona Annie take down Captain Corbett along with M.O.D.O.K. The Guardians, now in possession of the tech they need, return to Avengers Mansion.
Rocket uses the pieces to boost the signal, allowing Cosmo's message from Knowhere to come through. Tony Stark and Giant-Man believe that something on Knowhere can take down the shield surrounding Kang's Citadel. However, they'll need to find a way to bring it into Chronopolis. Doctor Strange suggests using the Nexus of All Realities' shards to do so.
After the Avengers locate the shards with help from Heimdall, the Guardians head toward Hala, where they fight against Ronan the Accuser and the Kree for the Nexus Shard, which Ronan planned to use to overthrow Kang. However, they are stopped by the Supreme Intelligence. The Guardians, under the control of Supreme Intelligence, battle Black Bolt and Medusa, but the two manage to free them from the villain's control. The Guardians ask the Inhumans for help against Kang, to which they agree.
Fight Against Kang[]
While the heroes prepare in the mansion to fight Kang, Groot met with Kamala Khan, who, because she thought he was cute, asked if she could include Groot in her fanfic.
Groot was one of the heroes who later fought Kang's army for Captain America, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel to enter Kang's tower. After Kang was defeated by the superheroes and turned into a baby by Ravonna, Groot and Rocket were in charge of taking care of baby Kang.[1]
Facing Ego[]
Te Guardians of the Galaxy found themselves on the run from the Sovereign, who mounted a violent chase after the Guardians after Rocket stole some of their powerful anulax batteries. They were saved by the laidback Celestial Ego, who greeted them. He introduced himself as Quill's long lost father, and invited Quill to come and learn about his Celestial heritage on his planet. Groot found himself under Rocket's care in the ruined Milano, along with Nebula, Gamora's spiteful and vengeful sister whom the Guardians had captured to collect a bounty off of, while Quill, Drax, and Gamora left with Ego.
Groot and Rocket would be kidnapped by the Ravagers and taken to the Ravagers' ship. As part of the celebration of the mutinous Ravagers, they forced Groot to don a tiny Ravager costume and aggressively played with him, kicking and spilling drinks on him for fun. Yondu urged him to retrieve a cybernetic control fin for his arrow, which he retrieved with the help of Yondu's last Ravager ally, Kraglin. Yondu, Rocket and Groot then went on a rampage through the ship, slaughtering all of the Ravagers for their betrayal and abuse, all before reaching a quadrant of the ship which Kraglin broke apart and flew away while the rest were destroyed.[1]
