History

Groot's homeworld was firebombed by Ronan, destroying the entire surface of the planet and all life but one Flora colossi. Groot later became a friend of Rocket after the latter gave him water. The two then broke out of the laboratory in which they were being kept. Both of them later joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.

An encounter with the meteor had infected Groot with fungus, turning him into a giant.

Later, Rocket had created up a formula that made Groot grow a full head of leaves.
