History
Like every creature found on the Beyonder's Battleworld following the conclusion of the first Secret Wars, Gruhl of Shalfbut was the product of the subconscious mind of the Fantastic Four's Thing.[1] (The Thing had decided to remain on Battleworld[2] after discovering he could change back and forth between human and Thing forms.[3]) Each of these creations were based off some aspect of Ben's memories or personality, with entirely fabricated backgrounds and origins.[1]
In an alien neighborhood based on Yancy Street, Gruhl came across the Thing and his companion Tarianna. Trying to pick up Tarianna he came to blows with Ben Grimm, who was able to knock Gruhl through a window and out into the trash without changing into the Thing. Gruhl decided to get revenge when a powerful Tantoran P-Z Lanta appeared in his hands. However his attempts to slay Grimm with the weapon were thwarted thanks to a local street gang that was playing pranks on Ben after he accidentally scratched the paint on their car. When Ben became aware that Gruhl was attacking him, he was able to change into the Thing, making himself immune to the weapon's explosives. The Thing and Gruhl then duked it out until the gang told Tarianna that the weapon was instantly teleported away to whomever the wielder wished the weapon to be used against. Hearing this, Ben wished the weapon to be pitted against Galactus and it suddenly vanished. Because Ghurl had damaged the gang's car even more they chased him from the scene of the battle, never to be seen again.[4]
Presumably, Gruhl ceased to exist when the Thing later left Battleworld causing everything on it to vanish and the planet to self destruct.[1]See Also
