History

The Guardians of the Galaxy's history is presumably similar to their Earth-616 counterparts. At least two of their members, Gamora and Groot, were zombified by the Respawned, intelligent zombies infested by a new breed of Brood parasite. They later took part in an ambush and zombified members of the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Avengers. Then they attacked Earth and wiped out nearly all of humankind. It's unrevealed what became of Gamora afterward, but Groot and many of the other Respawned moved into Limbo so they could launch attacks on the Multiverse, but the hive mind inside the corpse of Galactus was destroyed, leading to the likely death of Groot and Gamora.

Trivia

• The Guardians of the Galaxy appear in a zombie-themed variant cover for Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol. 6) #4, but only Groot and Nova have appeared elsewhere.
