Synopsis for 1st story
Phyla-Vell, Major Victory, Mantis, Cosmo and Gamora are fighting their way through the Church worshippers on Sacrosanct. Then suddenly, Phyla sees Maelstrom, who taunts her for failing to kill Magus. However, only Phyla can see Maelstrom. Even worse, the Matriarch has arrived to put an end to their resistance.
Meanwhile, on Ovar, the Guardians fight against the nanotic bioweapons unleashed on the summit. Luckily, Rocket Raccoon quickly ends the disruption with a big gun. However, Blastaar then starts bragging that he's important enough to be attacked. He also demands that the Guardians leave, calling them vigilantes with no legal standing on the council. However, Star-Lord proves that they do have a seat, given that Groot is the ruler of Planet X, much to Blastaar's chagrin. But instead of staying to see Blastaar's dismayed face, Star-Lord goes to check up on Moondragon, who had felt some sort of psychic message. Everyone else things it's crazy that Phyla is alive and that Magus survived their fight.
Back on Sacrosanct, the Matriarch unleashes her belief-based powers against the other Guardians. Tired of listening to her talk of "I believe", Major Victory uses his shield to knock her out; he also admits that he does not like to hit women, before realizing he just said that in front of Gamora and Mantis. The latter corrects him that the Matriarch is psychotic and deranged. Gamora then notices that Phyla is gone.
Down some hallway, Maelstrom leads Phyla to a cocoon, where something is regenerating, capable of stopping the evils that Magus is about to unleash, which the Church had been attempting to hide. Phyla thinks he means Adam Warlock. But when she slashes the cocoon, she discovers that it is actually Thanos, who fires optic blasts at her.
