Synopsis for "Death of a Gunhawk!"

After finding out that Kid Cassidy lied to him, Reno prepared to draw his gun. Cassidy refused to draw though and just as Reno pulled his gun Gray Fox went to shoot the Calvary Captain. Reno shot wide intentionally missing Cassidy but Rachel who was with Gray Fox in some nearby bushes attempted to stop Gray Fox as to not accidently shoot Reno or Cassidy however she unintentionally caused Gray Fox to do just that. Cassidy shot and bleeding is shocked, thinking with his last moments that his friend Reno had shot him. The Cavalry Captain Worth also places the blame on Reno even after one of his own men brings up doubt by stating he saw gunsmoke from the bushes.

Gray Fox and Rachel ride off and while Reno is forced to draw on the Cavalrymen and tie them up he then flees the scene but later returns to bury Cassidy. Upon his return he is attacked by Gray Fox who knows Reno will never leave Rachel alone and thus believes he must kill him in order to stop him from taking away his squaw. The two fight with Reno coming out on top. Reno attempts to ask for Rachel's whereabouts but Gray Fox doesn't answer and instead runs himself into the knife held by Reno. Gray Fox with his dying breath says that while he cannot have Rachel neither can Reno after killing him.

Meanwhile Rachel is liberated from her bonds somewhere a distance away by some passing women who pick her up in their wagon on the way to San Francisco. While Reno buries Cassidy, he says a few words about the guilt he feels for his death and that he'd swap places with him if he could. He then goes to place Rachel's locket on his grave marker when it's shot out of his hand by the Calvary. Reno mounts his horse and feels the oncoming soldiers.
