Gwen Poole originally lived in a universe like our own – where Super Heroes and Super Villains were fictional characters in comic books, movies, and even animated television shows. Unable to find a job after high school and after all of her friends moved away, Gwen escaped reality in comics. Through mysterious, unknown means, Gwen found herself transported to the Marvel Universe. Uninterested in being an "extra" in the comic book world, Gwen bought a costume and became a costumed fighter. She doesn't possess any traditional superpowers but is a formidable hero using her extensive knowledge of the Marvel Universe, fiction in general, and her "medium awareness." This medium awareness allows Gwen to straddle the line between comics and reality, such as hopping between comic pages and using comic text as tools. After receiving her moniker "Gwenpool" from Deadpool, Gwenpool made a name for herself as a hero, facing off against villains like Taskmaster and M.O.D.O.K. while also joining up with heroes like the Avengers and Spider-Man.[1]
