History
Known background[]
Gwendolyne "Gwenny" Lou Sabuki was a Japanese-American citizen, who, like all Japanese-Americans, was rounded up during WW2 and placed inside a relocation camp. From this camp she was kidnapped, along with her father, Dr. Hijiri "Sam" Sabuki, by Agent Axis, a super-humanly powered operative for the Axis powers.[3]
As a result, she was present at a stateside battle in which sidekicks James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes and Toro (Thomas Raymond) of the superhero team the Invaders fought against Agent Axis. Axis placed her, David "Davey" Mitchell, Bucky, and Toro into a machine designed to restore Agent Axis to his normal form. But before this could take place, Bucky and Toro tried to escape, and in the ensuing brawl, one of Sam Sabuki's machines exploded, granting super-human powers to both Gwenny Lou and David Mitchell. Gwenny Lou gained the power to generate light and energy and to project golden force beams from her hands, while Mitchell gained the ability to spin at superhuman speeds. Gwenny Lou assumed the alias of Golden Girl; David, that of "The Human Top." The four youthful heroes defeated Agent Axis, and later formed the Kid Commandos, who were allied with the adult Invaders.[4]
After World War II[]
Gwenny Lou later helped found the post-war version of the British superhero team the V-Battalion, and after reaching adulthood, she eventually changed her primary super-heroic alias to Golden Woman.
Gwendolyne Lou Sabuki died in 1961. It is not known how she died.
Known offspring[]
Gwenny Lou's son Kenji became the super-hero called Golden Sun, while her granddaughters Ameiko and Ryoki became, respectively, Goldfire and Radiance.[5][6] Kenji Sabuki and Ameiko Sabuki have both died since.Attributes
Powers
- Photokinesis: Gwenny Lou was given the ability to project radiant energy from her body, in the form of golden force beams from her hands.
- Energy Projection: Gwenny's energy blasts were strong enough to hurt Prince Namor McKenzie of Atlantis, the "Sub-Mariner."[2]
- Flight: Gwenny could "ride" her light to fly.[2] The maximum speed at which she could so fly and still breathe was never measured.
