- —Hate Monger[src]
History
The unknown man who became the third incarnation of the Hate-Monger is the grandson of a Nazi German soldier who fought in the Battle of Berlin in World War II. He inherited his grandfather's Luger P-08 and embraced neo-Nazist, white supremacist, and extreme nationalistic and Christian beliefs as well.[1] In the aftermath of the Civil War and the (apparent) death of Captain America, the man donned a Nazi-themed version of Captain America's uniform as a symbol of his crusade to "take America back" from ethnic minorities, especially Mexican illegal immigrants.[2] He resurrected an old neo-Nazist organization known as the National Force, equipped his followers with high-tech equipment and weaponry, and set up base in the Sonoran Desert, Arizona, near the Mexican border. Also, he somehow got a hold of a machine capable of generating the original Hate-Monger's hate-ray, and used it to instill his men with even more hatred and aggression.[2]
Punisher War Journal[]
The Hate-Monger launched several murderous attacks on illegal immigrant camps in Mexico.[2] His followers used wrist-worn flamethrowers to set fire to houses and people. Eventually, Stuart Clarke, who at the time was working with the Punisher while both were on the run from the S.H.I.E.L.D., stumbled upon an article on one of the raids written by his girlfriend, Tatiana Arocha. Knowing that Frank idolized Captain America, and that he would have been outraged by the fact that a terrorist was using his hero's costume, he showed the article to him, hoping that the Punisher would have decided to intervene in favour of the immigrants, which he did.[3][1] Frank decided to infiltrate the National Force. He visited a bar used as a front by the group, made two members believe he shared their ideas, and was recruited after winning a bull fight which was meant to be an initiation.[4] The Punisher was informed by the National Force that they were planning another attack on Mexican immigrants, so he decided to blitz them while they were carrying it out. In the meantime, the two members who recruited the Punisher discovered that Tatiana was investigating their group, and forced the local U.S. Border Patrol commander to reveal them her name. Later, they intercepted and kidnapped Tatiana shortly after she and Stuart had accompanied Frank to meet the Hate-Monger and his men.[1]
The Hate-Monger welcomed the Punisher at the National Force's compound, introduced him to his beliefs, and used the hate-ray to increase Frank's aggression to the point that he killed Tatiana with his own bare hands as part of yet another initiation. Later, just as the group began raiding another immigrant camp, the Punisher donned a new, Captain America-themed tactical suit he designed in retaliation for the Hate-Monger using his idol's costume, and attacked members of the National Force. However, he was easily subdued due to the group's numerical superiority, and the National Force managed to continue the massacre.[2] Frank was tied up to a pole, taunted by the Hate-Monger,[3] forced to wear his new suit, and placed before a firing squad. Just before the execution, the Punisher bought himself more time, claiming that he was the new Captain America, and that it would have taken more than that to kill him, to which the Hate-Monger decided to kill him personally with his Luger.[4][1] Just as the Hate-Monger was going to pull the trigger, members of the National Force realized they were not alone, and were subsequently shot by George Washington Bridge, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent tasked with hunting down Frank. Bridge had been recently discharged but was still loyal to his mission, and still on the Punisher's tracks.[1][2] While Bridge and Hate-Monger were in a stalemate, Stuart Clarke attacked the National Force's compound, forcing the Hate-Monger and his men to retreat to their base. There, Frank confronted the Hate-Monger hand-to-hand, subdued him, unmasked him, and shot him in the head, killing him. Also, he ripped the five-pointed star from his costume to remove any association with Captain America.[5]
Civil War II[]
By unknown means, the Hate-Monger either faked his own death or was resurrected. During Civil War II, he and the National Force activated a madbomb in Symkaria for unspecified reasons, but were stopped by the combined efforts of Captain Marvel, Captain America, the Vision, and Black Panther.[6]Attributes
