Synopsis for "Gabriel: Devil-Hunter"
St. Benedict's Cathedral in Manhattan has been blasphemously vandalized, and Father Lazar is shocked to find that his colleague Father Artemis has become possessed by a demon (and is the cause of the vandalism) when he suddenly breaks off his sermon and speaks blasphemous words in a woman's tongue and jumps off the pew and seriously injures himself.
Father Lazar goes to the 13th floor of the Empire State Building, where Gabriel, one of the world's greatest exorcists operates. There, Lazar explains the situation, however, he suddenly becomes possessed and attacks Gabriel. Gabriel blocks the attack and exorcises the priest. When he has no recollection of the attack, Gabriel agrees to take the case.
Taken to the room inside the Cathedral where Father Artemis is being kept, Gabriel confronts the demon possessing his body. He's shocked to find that it is Catherine, the demon who possessed him and forced him to tear out one of his own eyes. In order to save himself he burnt a crucifix into his chest. The experience made him renounce his priesthood, but solidified his desire to fight evil.
When Catherine fails at keeping possession of Artemis, the creature tries to possess Gabriel but finds itself violently cast out of his body, and disappears. With the exorcism complete, Gabriel moodily departs the scene.

Notes
Continuity Notes[]
- "A Fire in Hell" depicts "the agents of the Four" with the "Four" appearing in the following story "Bloody is the Path to Hell!". In Haunt of Horror (Vol. 2) #4 it will be revealed that the Four and the agents were one and the same with "Miles Gorney" acting as their leader who wishes to rule Hell. Haunt of Horror (Vol. 2) #5 however will reveal that Miles Gorney was a disguise used by Satana's father, Satan, and that this whole plot was a test to prove she was truly Satan's Daughter.
