History

The Heer was the equivalent of the Wehrmacht's ground forces, which during World War II were distinct from the other ground forces, the Waffen-SS. The Heer survived as the German ground force even after World War II, becoming the current ground army after merging with those of the two Germanies at the end of the Cold War.
