History
Hela was banished from Asgard before it was destroyed in Ragnarok. During the Convergence Hela's Niffleheim, Mephisto's Realm and Dormammu's Dark Dimension were all merged together into a single Dark Domain and the three Hell Lords all fought each other for the total dominion over it. Dormammu's forces were greater in numbers, and so Hela avoided a direct confrontation in favor of treachery. She assumed the guise of Scarlet Witch and set out to gain the trust of the heroes who dared ventured into the Dark Domain. She teamed up with Nico Minoru and other wizards who ventured into the Dark Dimension to protect the civilians who found themselves trapped there, erecting protective barriers and turning Mindless Ones into the protective Mindful Ones.
This strategy paid off when Valkyrie and other powerful heroes from Omega Flight ventured into the Dark Domain in search of Hela herself, hoping that she could remove the corruption placed on the Seed of the World Tree Yggdrasill by Malekith. "Scarlet Witch" subtly redirected their efforts towards fighting Dormammu, neutralizing some of his more powerful lieutenants and undermining his plans at every turn. Dormammu also had placed many of the heroes from the world he had conquered, including Storm, Captain America and Captain Marvel, under his control, using them to lead his armies against Mephisto's demons.
As "Scarlet Witch"
"Wanda" helped Valkyrie and her friend defeat the corrupted heroes and promised to break Dormammu's spell over them, explaining that Dormammu had to be stopped before he could win and spread his influence across the entire Primary Earth. Joined by that world's Black Widow, whose Red Room mind control resistance blocked Dormammu's influence, they managed to destroy the Convergium crystals Dormammu had required for his plans. The Dread One himself then appeared and attacked them, but Black Widow, Valkyrie and the others managed to defeat him and "Scarlet Witch" trapped him inside a pocket dimension of her own creation. It was then that Valkyrie noticed her deception and Hela revealed her true self. Hela captured Valkyrie and told the mortals that she would lift the curse from the World Tree Seed in exchange for them defeating Mephisto, thus granting her the unchallenged rule over the Dark Domain. She took Valkyrie to the Hall of Nastrond where she was tortured for Hela's amusement.
